晨之詩

Every morning

the world

is created.

Under the orange

sticks of the sun

the heaped

ashes of the night

turn into leaves again

and fasten themselves to the high branches—

and the ponds appear

like black cloth

on which are painted islands

of summer lilies.

If it is your nature

to be happy

you will swim away along the soft trails

for hours， your imagination

alighting everywhere.

And if your spirit

carries within it

the thorn

that is heavier than lead—

if it’s all you can do

to keep on trudging—

there is still

somewhere deep within you

a beast shouting that the earth

is exactly what it wanted—

each pond with its blazing lilies

is a prayer heard and answered

lavishly，

every morning，

whether or not

you have ever dared to be happy，

whether or not

you have ever dared to pray.

賞析

瑪麗·奧利弗（Mary Oliver，1935—），被認為是美國當代最優秀的大自然詩人，有人稱之為當代詩歌中的梭羅。她生于美國俄亥俄州一個田園小鎮，13歲開始寫詩。十幾歲的時候，她曾經住在另一位女詩人埃德娜·圣·文森·米萊（Edna St. Vincent Millay）舊居中幫助整理詩人的遺稿，她曾短期上過大學，隨后放棄學業，開始專心寫作。她的詩歌贏得了多項獎項，其中包括國家圖書獎和普利策詩歌獎。主要詩集有：《夜晚的旅行者》（The Night Traveler，1978）、《美國原貌》（American Primitive，1983）、《燈光的屋宇》（House of Light，1990）、《新詩選》（New and Selected Poems，1992）和《白松：詩和散文詩》（White Pine: Poems and Prose Poems，1994）等。
