Seagull
I was a seagull. When I fly, I would be surer of it, Looking at the dark blue seawater below and the bright sky above, I could feel that wind shuttled back and forth through every feather of mine.
I lived in a crack of a rock ,outside which was the vast sea. I liked watching the sea while lying on my cozy nest. The sea was really beautiful, with no end in sight. Only the bright blue, dark blue, and green blue, which were interspersed with silvery light, were unceasingly changing. I liked watching the sea in my nest, but I liked flying even more. The sea was another scene while I saw from the sky when I was flying. It was magnificent and jumping with my reflection ,I could appreciate my own reflection, and sing heartily while flying, attracting the response of the seagulls around me. At this moment, I would always think that I was very beautiful. I could do what ever I liked, such as straight fly, side fly, glide, and jump. Let others envy! I didn’t care! I was a happy single seagull!
Just like this, I had led a free life for a long time, until I met her. She was a seagull girl, having white and healthy feather. Perhaps because our homes were too near, I heard her singing every morning, and I saw her fly out of her nest every day. I was attracted, and followed her at the fastestspeed. Then, we began to play, dance, till we were both exhausted. When we were too tired, we stopped and rested at the rock on the bank ,combing our feather, and bathing our wet body. At this moment, I thought I was lucky to be a seagull, because only seagulls could enjoy such a free life, and only I could enjoy the happiness that she gave to me.
I forgot when she began to live in my nest. The nest became smaller, but warmer. We no longer went out to fly, but stayed at home, at our home. We stayed in the narrow home, enjoying the beautiful sea view. The sea seemed more beautiful, constantly changing its colors. We fell asleep and woke up over and over again ,in the sound of the waves. I knew, until that day, I had a home which really belonged to me.
Expectedly or unexpectedly, we had three eggs of our own. They were milky white, shining under the gentle sunshine. I was the father of the three eggs. From that day on , she paid less attention to me. She hatched the eggs all day long. I, at the same time, looked for as much food as I could, to made her strong enough to hatch the eggs. I cause I was a seagull who had a family. I must do what I should do for my family. Over and over again, I caught many preys with my sharp eyes and good skills; over and over again, I carried them back our home; and over and over again, I hurried out to go on with my work . I only found some food for myself when the sun set. Then I dragged my body to go home. When I reached home, she had already fallen asleep. She lay on the eggs and covered them with her body in case I saw them. I , slept at the dorrway, and shielded the cold wind for her and my babies. I knew it was my responsibility.
The day that the babies emerged was coming. It was one day with gentle breezes and warm sunshine, and I left home for work early in the morning. I didn’t know why all the fish had hidded in the deep sea, so I had to fly to the distant place to search. Suddenly, I saw a layer of dark clouds was moving from the remotest places at a distance. I hesitated for a while, but at last I determined to continue looking for food. There were only three fish for her at home. But the fish never cooperated with me. I failed again and again. At last, I captured a big fish, but that black cloud had been already near before eyes. I could feel that heavy raindrops hit my head, and my shoulders. My wings were drenched, I felt so cold, and I found I was falling. I couldn’t open my mouth, because there was her food inside. The home was nearer and nearer, but I had been already completely exhausted. My eyes were full of something that I dind’t know was rainwater or tears. It flowed along my faces, and into my mouth, salty. I was falling, which I couldn’t control at all. At this moment, I heard a babiescry from our home……
The sun shone again after the rain, and the seagull’s remains floated on the sea surface, close to the bank. Voices of little seagulls were heard from the crack of the rock ,one and another--The seagull disappeared, as quietly as a drop of water evaporates.
However, the story of the seagull isn’t over, because there were waves, sunshine, seawinds, and the little seagulls that have broken out of the shells. I think, the story of the seagull will never end as long as there is sky, sea, and seagulls.
