在英語中，“許多”的表達方式豐富多樣，常見的有“many”“much”“a lot/lots of”。除了這些外，同學們，你們還知道哪些表達方法呢？下面，筆者就“許多”的其他英語表達進行了歸納，以期對同學們的寫作有所幫助。

一、a quantity of/ quantities of

a quantity of /quantities of 意為“許多”時既可以用來修飾可數名詞，又可以用來修飾不可數名詞。需要注意的是，當 a quantity of修飾不可數名詞用作主語時，謂語動詞用單數；quantities of 修飾不可數名詞用作主語時，謂語動詞用復數。例如：

My father bought a quantity of/ quantitiesof books yesterday.

我爸爸昨天買了許多書。

A quantity of food was on the table.

餐桌上擺了許多食物。

Quantities of oil are ordered.

許多石油被訂購了。

The? factory? turns? out? a? large? quantity? ofpaper products.

這家工廠生產大量的紙制品。

二、a great deal of

a great deal of意為“許多”時，其后只能與不可數名詞連用。例如：

I have spent a great deal of time readingthe book.

我花了許多時間讀這本書。

The system wastes a great deal of water.

這套系統浪費了許多水。

三、a large amount of

a large amount of，意為“許多”時只能用來修飾不可數名詞。例如：

The little boy spent a large amount of timewatchingTV .

小男孩花了許多的時間看電視。

They have a large amount of mail to answer every day.

他們每天要回復許多信件。

The old man has a large amount of moneyin the bank.

這個老人在銀行里存有許多錢。

Kate has a large amount of call to answerevery day.

凱特每天有大量的電話要回復。

四、a large /great number of

a large /great number of 意為“許多”時，其后只能接可數名詞復數。例如：

They chose us from a large /great numberof students.

他們從許多學生中挑選了我們。

I have already visited a great /large num-ber of different places in China.

我已經到過中國的許多地方了。

The room contained a large/great numberof soldiers.

這個房子能夠容納許多士兵。

五、quite a few

quite a few意為“許多”時，其后只能接可數名詞復數。例如：

Ive been there quite a few times.

我去過那里許多次了。

Quite a few students want to study aboard.

許多學生想要出國留學。

We havent seen each other for quite a fewdays.

我們許多天沒見了。

Lily? has? quite? a? few? classmates? in? thestreet.

莉莉在這條街上有很多同學。

六、quite a little

quite a little意為“許多”時主要用來修飾不可數名詞。例如：

Reading gives me quite a little pleasure.

閱讀給我帶來了許多的快樂。

He spent quite a little time studying Eng-lish.

他花了許多的時間來學習英語。

Theres quite a little milk in the bottle.

瓶子里有許多牛奶。

Ive spent quite a little money on sports.

我花了不少錢健身。

七、a great many

a great many 意為“許多”時，其后只能跟可數名詞的復數形式。例如：

We plant a great many trees every year.

我們每年種許多樹。

She has a great many things to do at present.

她目前有許多事要做。

The policeman asked a great many questions.

警察詢問了許多問題。

八、plenty of

plenty of意為“許多”時，其后可以接可數

名詞或不可數名詞。例如：

He has plenty of work to do today.

他今天有許多活要干。

There are plenty of restaurants for us tochoose from.

這兒有許多餐館可供我們選擇。

We have plenty of bottled drinks.

我們有很多的瓶裝飲料。

九、scores of

acores of意為“許多”時，其后只能接可數名詞復數。例如：

There were scores of visitors there when

we visited the monument.

當我們參觀紀念碑時，有許多游客在那兒。

Scores of imported cars are on show here.

許多進口車正在這里展出。

The heavy rains killed scores of animals.

暴雨淹死了許多動物。
