New Developments in Ceramic Art and Sister Art

【Abstract】Ceramics is a witness to the development of our nation. From the ancient Neolithic Age to the present， it has recorded our development from barbarism to civilization step by step. The development of ceramic art is inseparable from the development of its sister art， and only when the two combine， can it constitute a splendid history of ceramics.

1. Ceramic art and painting art

The art of calligraphy and painting is expressed on the ceramics. It can be divided into three kinds of overglazed， middle-glaze and under-glaze according to the different places. It is to paint on different glazes， which can also be combined with each other. There is a big difference between painting on porcelain and painting on paper （such as oil painting， traditional Chinese painting， watercolor， etc.）. Paper is generally flat， and the type of porcelain is ever-changing. It is a necessary to consider composition in a comprehensive way and it cannot be fully applied. Painting on ceramics not only requires a solid foundation of painting， but also the unique shape of ceramics which is used for composition. In terms of the content of the creation， it absorbs some of the painting techniques of ancient Chinese painting， or applies some of the traditional painting techniques to the porcelain. Only some techniques have been changed according to the manufacturing process of porcelain， which has its own characteristics.

2. Ceramic art and sculpture art

According to historical records， as early as the Qing Dynasty， there were workers specializing in ceramic sculpture， but most of them were plane sculptures， who used dots and lines to form a picture. Their artistic performance seemed to be no characteristic and monotonous， and they were not appreciated by the mainstream at that time. During the Qing Dynasty， due to the economic prosperity and the cultural life demands of the upper class， the Qing Dynasty specially set up a “Workshops Office” to make special crafts in the palace. In the early days， ceramic sculpture was mainly on the basis of single-line sketching， and the decorative techniques were not rich. The lack of gradation and deficiency and excess changes made the whole work monotonous and boring. Later， with the development of the times， ceramic sculpture slowly absorbed the strengths of Chinese painting， sketch and other paintings and combined with itself， and integrated the ethereal artistic conception of Chinese painting and the three-dimensional sketch of the painting into the ceramic sculpture technique to make the works become rich and varied.

3. Ceramic art and music art

Music and ceramics seem to have nothing to do with， but there are also similarities. “It sounds like a chime stone.” The ancients used these words to describe the unique sound of ceramics. “Chime stone” is a whistle made of jade. If people look through history， they can use ceramic pottery whistle as early as the Neolithic Age. In China， there are several whistle made of pottery， which has been around for more than 6，000 years. This is one of the oldest instruments unearthed so far.

When the real ceramics appeared， some people also studied the unique use of porcelain， which is used as a musical instrument. According to the history book， there is a man called Guo Daoyuan who could beat the teacup to play music. From time to time， he showed his skills in front of everyone， selected twelve porcelain pots， and beat them with bamboo chopsticks， which could form various kinds of songs， and the sounds were different， which made people feel endless aftertastes. The unique tone of ceramics is hard to imitate by other instruments.

4. Conclusion

Generally speaking， if people want the ceramic industry to have good prospects， they must let the ceramic industry be linked to all walks of life， and always pay attention to the development of various industries. If people want ceramics to have new developments， it is necessary for them to integrate the technologies of various categories so that each art can be combined with each other and that they will collide with new sparks.
