The Obstacle of International Communication From the film“The other end of the line”

As we all know， different people from various culture will have misunderstandings when they encounter. The film fully demonstrates the culture shock. I will introduce you the main plots of the film as follows. Praia（starred by Shriya Saran）is an indigenous Indian girl who grows up in a typical conservative Indian family， and has an unglamorous job-a phone operator in a credit card company. As an Indian girl， American liberal and open style and diversified life have attracted Praia greatly. She can speak fluent English， and she even fabricate a false identity that she tells every client who calls her that she was Gennifer from San Francisco. An accidental opportunity， Praia received a phone call by a man who is named Granger（played by Jesse Metcalfe. They chat very happily and even make an appointment that they will see each other in America. To keep her secrets， Praia takes the plane to America. The departure of Praia makes his father Raymond （played by Anupam Kher）very angry. In fact， his father Raymond has found his satisfying son-in-law in India. To find his rebellious daughter， the Raymonds also set foot on the America to make Praia back home.

If you love a person truly， so try your best to pursue him and never make yourself regret. Even if Praia and Granger is in the distance between India and United States， the distance cant cut off the most sincere thoughts. Praia is a girl who relies on her intuition to judge things. This time， for love， she gambles successfully. Such a coincidence， maybe can only be explained by sixth sense. Granger is indeed a native New York man， who has a kind of unique and outstanding quality. What impresses me most is at the end of the movie. At the wedding of his friend Charlie， he reminds of Praia and flies to India at once to find his true love. Praia is not easy， either. Under the coercion of her families， she still refuses Vikram. She knows that she has fallen in love with Granger overwhelmingly although she can not predict the future. Fortunately， at the end of the film， Granger flies to India. The love story comes to an end. What a happy ending！By the way， the father of Praia acted very successfully. He is a traditional and conservative native Indian man. Its normal that he cant accept the open style of America and cant understand why his daughter is so insubordinate at first at first. However， he agrees that her daughter Praia refuses the engagement with Vikram and pursues her own happiness. The old mans psychological struggle must be very intense.endprint

The film is based on the culture shock between India and America. First of all， it is the culture shock between American English and Indian English. When Praia was on the phone with people from America， she always writes down something that she doesnt know. Sometimes， she misunderstands the words meaning because a American English word has multiple meanings， which makes the movie funny and humorous. Besidesit is the culture shock between American style and Indian style. For example， the Praia s father is a conservative Indian man who wants her daughter Praia to marry another Indian man Vikram. He cant what her daughter has done at first because he cant understand the free love so that he wants her daughter to marry one that she doesnt love. By contrast， the Americans are very open and know how to pursue their happiness. For example， when the main male character Granger realizes his faults， he flies to India to find his true love immediately. Moreover， the girls courage of pursuing her happiness also contrasts with her fathers deed.
