A group of teachers posed the question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds: what is love?

老師問一群4到8歲的孩子們：愛是什么？

“When my grandmother got arthritis， she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time， even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.” ——Rebecca - age 8.

8歲的Rebecca：“我奶奶關節(jié)炎犯了的時候，她都不能彎下去涂腳趾甲油。所以每次到這個時候爺爺就為她涂，甚至是在他手也犯關節(jié)炎的時候也不例外。這就是愛。”

“When someone loves you， the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth.” ——Billy - age 4

4歲的Billy：“當一個人愛你的時候，他們叫你名字的方式是不同的。你知道你的名字從他嘴里說出來感覺棒極了。”

“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.” ——Karl - age 5

5歲的Karl：“愛就是當一個女孩兒噴了香水，一個男孩兒撒了古龍水，然后他們出門，互相聞著彼此。”

“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French Fries without making them give you any of theirs.” ——Chrissie - age 6

6歲的Chrissie：“愛就是當你出去吃東西的時候，給了一個人一大部分你的法式薯條，卻不要他們拿東西換。”

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.” ——Terri - age 4

4歲的Terri：“愛就是當你累了的時候讓你笑的東西。”

“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him， to make sure the taste is OK.” ——Danny - age 7

7歲的Danny：“愛就是當媽媽為爸爸煮了咖啡，遞給他之前自己先喝一小口，看看是不是口味不錯。”

“If you want to learn to love better， you should start with a friend who you hate.” ——Nikka - age 6

6歲的Nikka：“如果你想學會更好地愛，你就要從那些你討厭的小朋友開始。”

“During my piano recital， I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.” ——Cindy - age 8

8歲的Cindy：“在我的鋼琴獨奏會上，我站在臺上，特別害怕。我看到所有的人都在看著我，這時候我爸爸在朝我揮手，對我微笑。他是唯一這么做的人。我就不再害怕了。”

“My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.” ——Clare - age 6

6歲的Clare：“我媽媽比任何人都愛我。再沒有別人在睡覺前還親我的。”

“Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.” ——Elaine - age 5

5歲的Elaine：“愛就是媽媽給了爸爸最好的那塊雞肉。”

“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.” ——Mary Ann - age 4

4歲的Mary Ann：“愛就是你一整天讓小狗孤零零之后，他還湊上來舔你的臉。”

“I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.” ——Lauren - age 4

4歲的Lauren：“我知道姐姐是愛我的，因為她把所有的舊衣服都給了我，然后她出去買了新的。”

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a 4-year-old child whose neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry， the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard， climbed onto his lap and just sat there.

比賽是為了找到最有同情心的孩子，冠軍是一個4歲的小朋友，他的鄰居是一個老人家，最近剛剛失去他的愛人。看到老爺爺在哭，小男孩兒就會走進他的院子里，爬到他的膝蓋上坐著。

When his Mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor， the little boy said， “Nothing， I just helped him cry.”

當小男孩兒的媽媽問他對鄰居說了什么的時候，小男孩說，“我什么也沒說，我就是幫他一起哭。”
