accurate, exact, correct和right

【例】I can’t tell you thedate， but it should be around July 4.

例題的句意為“我不能告訴你確切的日期，不過應該是在7月4日左右”。 right， accurate， exact和correct都有“準確的，正確的”的意思，但是側重點有所區別。

accurate

accurate表示“準確的，精確的”，強調事物的準確性，含有“不僅不出錯，而且與事實無出入”的意思。例如：

He is accurate in his observation. 他觀察準確。

Many people complain about not gathering accurate news. 許多人抱怨搜集不到準確的消息。

exact

exact表示“確切的，精確的”，強調“數量或質量上高度準確，完全符合標準或客觀事實，即使是細枝末節也分毫不差”，語氣比accurate強。例如：

I need to know the exact size. 我需要知道確切的尺寸。

His painting is an exact copy of the original. 他的畫是與原作毫厘不差的臨摹作品。

correct

correct表示“正確的”，強調“按照一定的標準或規則來衡量，沒有錯誤”。例如：

He gave correct answers to the questions. 他給出了這些問題的正確答案。

The players shall go round the course， passing the marks in the correct order. 選手們必須跑完全程，按正確的順序經過各個標志。

right

right使用廣泛，表示“對的，正確的”，常常可與correct通用，但它暗含“在道德、理解、行動等方面正確”的意思。例如：

Be guided by your sense of what is right and just. 做事要有是非觀念和正義感。

He got into a situation wherein it is hard to decide what is right and wrong. 他陷入了一種難以分辨是非的局面。

根據例題的句意，可知句中強調的不是日期的正確與錯誤，而是強調日期的準確性、確定性，因而可以排除right和correct，選用語氣更為強烈的exact。
