用like 或alike 填空：

這兩者均可表示“像，相似”。

A． alike是表語形容詞，只能在句中作表語及后置定語。它常用much， very much， exactly等修飾，不用very修飾。like是普通形容詞，可與alike一樣在句中作表語，另外也可以作前置定語。

The twins are very much alike. 這對雙胞胎非常相似。(不能用very修飾。)

The two towers are very like.這兩座塔很相似。（可用very修飾。）

They are alike in size and shape.它們在大小形狀上很相似。（作表語時也可用like。）

I have a red skirt. Mary’s skirt is just of a like kind.我有一條紅色連衣裙。瑪麗的裙子就像這種樣子。（作前置定語時不可用alike。）

B． alike還可作副詞，表示“同樣地”。like則可作介詞，表示“像”。

They were dressed alike in blue coats. 他們同樣都穿了藍色外衣。

We got on well like old friends. 我們處得像老朋友一樣。

each 和every都有“每個”的意思，但它們在用法上有所不同。

A. each 著重于個別的含義。

every 著重于全體的含義，和 all 的意思相近。例如：

Each student has an English book. 每個學生都有一本英語書。

Every student must study well.每個學生都必須好好學習。

第二個例句中的 every student 相當于 all the students.

B. each 可以用來指兩個以上的人或東西，但是every 卻總是指三個以上的人或東西，不能指兩個。試譯：街道兩旁有許多商店。

誤：There are many shops on every side of the street.

正：There are many shops on each side of the street.

C. every只能用作定語，each不僅可以作定語，兩且能像名詞一樣作主語、賓語和同位語。試譯：每個人都有自己的名字。

誤：Every has own name.

正：Each has his own name.

A. more than后常接數詞，表示“超過”。

The lady is more than forty.那女士超過40歲。

B. more than還可引申為“多于，豈止，非常”，用在名詞、形容詞、副詞、動詞、從句之前增強語氣，另可用于比較結構中表示“比……更”。

He is more than a father to her. 他對她勝似父親。

It is more than probable that he will fail. 他多半會失敗。

We saw a more than usually big tiger. 我們看見一只比普通老虎大得多的老虎。

He more than smiled， but laughed. 他不止是微笑，而是放聲笑了。

It is more than I can stand. 這超出了我所能忍受的限度。

We love our motherland more than our lives. 我們愛祖國勝過愛自己的生命。

C. more…than中的more可修飾名詞、形容詞、副詞、動詞等，than后可接從句，表示“比……更”，也可用于對人或物的同一性質或同一方面進行比較，表示“與其說……倒不如說，不是……而是”。

He had more money than he knew what to do with it. 他錢多得不知怎么花才好。

I was more sorry than angry.與其說我生氣，還不如說我感到遺憾。

He drives more carefully than he did three years ago. 他開車比三年前要小心得多。

I more agree with you than I agree with Robert. 相比較羅伯特的話，我更同意你的話。

He earns more money than he can spend. 他賺的錢用不完。
