Dear Director，

I am a freshman of Shanghai University. I am writing to put forward a proposal to improve the service of our school library.

There are mainly two problems besetting the library. First， the books and materials are in bad need of updating. Many students have stopped patronizing it because they cannot find relevant academic materials. A possible solution is to urge the school authorities to channel more funds to the library. Another problem is lack of professional staff. A good library is one staffed with smiling librarians， ready to lend a helping hand when they see a student has trouble finding a book. But the librarians in our library are mostly unsmiling， unhelpful and unfriendly. This problem can be solved by hiring more high-calibre professionals.

The library is the heart of a university and plays a key role in students academic life. I hope that effective measures will be taken to ensure that books are regularly updated and staff professionally trained.

Nowadays more and more people keep learning new skills to adapt to a fast-changing world. A recent study surveyed 1，000 adults from a wide spectrum of professions in Shanghai and found that 84.1 percent of those polled said they were learning one new skill or another.

Young people expand their skill base mainly to improve their career. For them， learning new things is more requirement than choice. If they dont keep their skills up to date in todays rapidly changing workplace， they will stop being competitive and can easily get replaced. For senior citizens， however， learning new skills is an effective way to keep mentally active. Take my 80-year-old grandpa as an example. He recently signed up for a computer course. It has worked wonders. He can now reinstall the operating system of his computer， not to mention surfing the Web and shopping online.
