My parents said I lost my hearing as a baby, but I knew I hadn't lost anything. None of myparts had dropped off. Nothing had changed: I could hear music that was close enough to me. Icould also hear my mom when she was in the same room.

I didn't realize any bearing /oss

(聽覺損耗) until I began to wear a hearing aid(助聽器)when I started living alone. Then, I began to discover many things I couldn ' t do. I couln ' t tellwhere sounds came from. nor tould I tell fire alarms from other alarms. I oncc missed a jobinterview because I didn't hear the address clearly on the phone. For the first time. I had toadmit that I had lost something.

My disability(殘疾 ,缺陷) doesn't announce itself. When I got jobs, I chose to keep it as asecret. One day a business friend said. "Nicolette. sometimes in meetings you answer thewrong questions. People don't know you can't hear, so they think you're strange, stupid orrude. It would be better to just tell them." But I knew if I told, people might see only mydisability, and they might forget that I was also a writer and a painter. I felt upset and helpless.

This bothered me till I met my husband. One morning at the beach I was listening to thesounds of the sea when my husband said. "Hear the bird?" "What bird?" I listened hard until Iheard a tiny sound. If he hadn' t mentioned it I would never have noticed it. As I listened, slowlyI began to hear-or maybe imagine-a song from far away. Did I really hear it'? Or just heard inmy heart what he shared with me? I realized that songs imagined were as sweet as those heard. The songs shared were sweeter still.

Every one of us, if we live long enough, will become disabled(殘疾的,有缺陷的) in someway. Let ' s share. These are conversations we all should have. and it ' s not that hard to begin.

)26. When the writer started living alone with a hearing aid, she

A. felt better prepared for the job interviews

B. was able to enjoy different sounds

C. couldn't do many things like normal people

D. was laughed at by others

)27. The writer didn ' t tell her disability to others because

A. people might pay much attention to her hearing loss

B. she could get the work done as normal people

C. people might be asking questions about it

D. she wanted to do more jobs

)28. The writer wrote the passage to__

A. draw people ' s attention to the hearing problem

B. tell disability is not a secret that can' t be shared with others

C. remember the difficult time she had

D. show how much she missed before

)29. According to the passage, "announce itself" probably refers to

A. make itself known to others

B. make me different from others

C. make people happy

D. make itself accepted by others

)30. We can learn from the passage that

A. the writer couldn't hear any sound at all

B. the writer's husband has the hearing problem as she does
