設計思想
1. 素材分析。
(1)文本特征。這部分一共兩個文本,一篇短文和一個對話,內(nèi)容都和John White的興趣愛好有關。
(2)文本特點。文本篇幅適中,語言較淺顯。文章的主人公John White喜歡航海,所以文中出現(xiàn)的詞匯大多和大海和天氣又關,如:sailing、dolphin、storm等。第一個文本,是對John White這個人的簡單介紹,使用的是一般現(xiàn)在時態(tài);第二個文本,John和他妻子Pauline的通話內(nèi)容,使用的是現(xiàn)在進行時態(tài)。

教學目標
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to know about John White and his hobby and learn the new words: journey, take a year off, sail, around the world, dolphin, whale, bathroom, have a shower, make good progress, close, South Africa, a strong wind, start. Be able to use the new words properly in the composition ‘My dads hobby and use the present simple and present continuous correctly.

活動回顧Unit 9 EX 10 Craig and Julia,復習一些9單元新學的運動,并引出hobby這個詞,While –reading Stage
活動1:Get to know John White
Where are Craig and Julia from? They are from Britain介紹Andy White, He is from Britain, too. Hes in Year 8 like you in a middle school in London. There are three people in his family. Read the first paragraph and complete the chart.(把第一段打在ppt上,并勾出重點內(nèi)容)
銜接:Andys father likes sailing. He does it once a year. But this year is different. How is this year different? John is taking a year off from his job and is sailing around the world. And hes doing it alone.
活動2:Discussion
Think about it everyone, sail around the world-- alone. What do you think of the journey?
活動3:Does John think it exciting too?(把第二段打在ppt上,并勾出重點內(nèi)容)學生先回答這個Y/N,然后read it again and complete the chart.
銜接:Andys father is sailing around the world this year. Where are Andy and his mother? They are at home. How does Andys mother (Pauline) feel when her husband is out sailing alone? How do they contact each other? By telephone. (satellite phone)
活動4:Complete the conversation, repeat and role play.
1. Here is a telephone conversation between Andys father John and his mother Pauline. Complete the conversation with the words from the box.

教學反思
英語閱讀在初中英語教學中非常重要,在近幾年的中考中,閱讀題的分值也越來越重。那么如何上好一堂英語閱讀課呢?
一、需選擇適合的語言材料
1. 文章篇幅要適中。文章太長,一節(jié)課不能完成,閱讀任務太簡單,學生容易失去興趣。因為10單元Ex. 1篇幅較短,所以筆者把練習2的對話也安排到了這堂閱讀課中。
2. 難易度要適中。要選擇比本班學生水平稍高的語言材料,但不能要求太高,否則會挫傷學生學習英語的銳氣和積極性,而這次10單元的閱讀材料稍顯簡單。
3. 有可讀性。閱讀內(nèi)容要有趣、有料,這樣才能激發(fā)學生想讀下去的興趣。
二、課堂提問需精心準備
在針對這次閱讀材料設計討論或思考題時,筆者主要的原則還是基于文本,從學生的英語能力考慮,沒有安排靈活性較大的討論,課后筆者覺得應該更相信學生,應該為他們設定更高的目標,而不是去將就他們。比如,練習1最后一句話是‘John wants to … ,其實真的不應該怕冷場而不給學生思考的機會。再比如,可以把最后的閱讀輸出活動改成討論‘What do you think of John Whites decision?
三、在教學過程中教會學生有效的閱讀方法和技巧
1. 猜詞義。猜詞義的方法有很多,比如根據(jù)上下文猜單詞的意思(常見短語和單詞:that is to say,in other words ,such as,for example ,though,however … )以及同義詞﹑反義詞或詞根等。除通過上下文猜詞義外還可以根據(jù)構詞法猜詞義。例如,-tion, -ness,等是名詞后綴,un-, -less,等表示否定的前后綴,學會了這些,我們就可以很容易地猜出一些詞匯的意思。
2. 掃讀(skimming)讓學生在短時間內(nèi)了解作者的寫作意圖。
3. 跳讀(scanning)訓練學生快速捕捉重要信息的能力。
4. 細讀(detailed-reading)讓學生仔細閱讀文章,深入抓取文章細節(jié)內(nèi)容,了解各段落的主要內(nèi)容和各段落之間的關系。
提高閱讀能力不是一蹴而就的事情,需要教師不斷學習提高,從而幫助學生更快成長。
