（一）

An Unforgettable Evening

One winter evening at the Beijing Railway Station I learned how to avoid being deceived. It was cold， windy evening when my girl friend and I arrived by train from my hometown. We didnt know whether buses would still be running at that late hour， so we waited outside the station for a long time. Hunger， chill and fatigue caught up with us. Just then a gentle and cultivated young man came up to us. He said he would like to do us a favour.“Go to my home nearby and take a rest. Its comfortable.”How could we believe a strangers words？So we answered，“No， thank you！”However， he insisted， “Im a kind man， just come with me.” I couldnt picture what would happen if we followed him. I was shivering， but firmly I retorted，“No， thank you， kind man. I know wicked persons occur only in small munbers. Go away now， please.”And so he did. What would happen next time？Should I be always cautious of being deceived by strngers when Im alone？

An Unforgettable Evening

I shall long cherish the memory of that delightful evening I spent at home. My wife and I had a simple dinner alone， with a pleasant and interesting conversation. Then we sat at the piano and sang many of our favorite songs. When our throats grew weary， we turned on the stereo and danced to beatiful music. When our breath became short， we strolled， arm-in-arm， through our moonlit yard.

I was so very happy and I longed for more such evenings.

But alas—early the next morning， a truck pulled into our driveway and shattered my hope. It was the TV repairman.

I Love My kind Mother

My mother is a kind and gentle woman. She takes good care of her children and keeps them at school. I have a sister. My mother gives us every comfort. We love her and she loves us also.

My mother has too much to do in bringing us up. She gets up very early and sleeps very late every day. She works hard， yet without complaining. She is also a thrifty and hard-working woman. She saves every penny that she can and keeps everything in order. As she has been busy ever since she was young， she looks older than she really is. Her face is wrinkled， her hair becomes ?silver white， and some of her teeth become movable. But she works as hard as ever.

Often she says to us， “Work while you work， play while you play， If you do not work， you will become lazy and of no use to society.” What a piece of good advice this is！ We must live up to it and always keep it in our mind.

An Unforgettable Trip

Making a trip to Beidaihe on May 18 was an experience which I will never forget.

A arrived in Beidaihe at about 2 oclock， and immediately took a No.5 bus to the sea area. The beautiful blue sea was so large that I couldnt see the other side of it. After getting off the bus， I went straight to the shore. Taking off my shoes， I put my feet into the water. The water was cool， and walking in the water was such a great joy that I didnt want to stop. Then I collected shells. When it got dark， I sat on the shore， watching the sea. The night scene was simply marvelous！

Finally I had to go back. It was an unforgettable day in my life.

I， Too， Have Some Genius

Everyone has some genius. Some like music， others are good at maths or enjoy physics. I too have some genius. I like singing best.

I sing when I am free， especially when I am alone. That way my voice becomes beautiful little by little. During the holidays， the villagers often ask me to sing for them. They enjoy my songs very much. I am very happy because I can do something for others. We are ordinary men， but we have genius more or less， We must use it to do something for the people. If everyone can use his genius to do something for others， I believe that the world will be more beautiful.

One day， John was back home after work. He found that his wife was shaking their daughter who was only half a year old. She said “Da-Dy” to the baby many times. John felt very happy because he thought his wife chose the word “Dady” to teach their baby.

During one night several weeks later， John and his wife were waken up by the cry “Dady”. His wife said to him， “Darling， she is calling you.” Then she turned to sleep.

幾周后的一天夜里，約翰和妻子被一陣哭聲驚醒了，“爸-爸！”“她在叫你，親愛的。”妻子說，然后翻身竟自睡了。
