Comparison between Two Types of Reconciliation

The paragraphs about reconciliation from Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice are excellent parts of each story，and each type of descriptions has its own characteristics.Different authors use their different writing skills to present the personality of their figures vividly.

The description in Jane Eyre contains many paragraphs which is formed by ask-answer pattern.The author uses this kind of ingenious way to paint the portrayals of Jane and Rochester.

“His manners，I think，you said are not to your taste？—priggish and parsonic？”

“I never mentioned his manners；but，unless I had a very bad taste，they must suit it；they are polished，calm，and gentlemanlike.”

In this piece of dialogue，Jane deliberately stimulates Mr.Rochester by having words of praise for her cousin.Her answering of each question successively is full of wisdom and deep love to Mr.Rochester，she has of course been aware of Rochesters jealous.However，she stings him on purpose to let him get rid of melancholy.

Mr.Rochesters keeping asking questions about St.John Rivers presents his unwilling to yield to others.Jane just answers with the same tone，which seems to make responses in a common dialogue but actually filled with the marvelous wisdom.What interests me most here is Mr.Rochesters later twice pauses，which gives me a large space to imagine what he is thinking about，maybe he is making a hard choice.He loves Jane so much that he would like to give her freedom to choose her true love.

“Jane，I ever like your tone of voice：it still renews hope，it sounds so truthful.……But I am not a fool—go—”

From these lines of Mr.Rochester，his stubborn character is being presented.

He feels much painful from the bottom of his heart，but he still maintains his gentlemanliness and pretends to show his generosity.After knowing Janes unwillingness of being Rivers wife.His attitude has a dramatic change.

“What，Jane！Is this true？ Is such really the state of matters between you and Rivers ？” What a lovely man he is，his surprising asking describes his childish side of his personality.

“I will at least choose—her I love best.Jane，will you marry me ？”

“Yes，sir.”

“A poor blind man，whom you will have to lead about by the hand？”

“Yes，sir.”

“A crippled man，twenty years older than you，whom you will have to wait on ？”

“Yes，sir.”

“Truly，Jane？”

“Most truly，sir.”

In this piece of ask-answer style dialogue，I was deeply touched by Janes concise words，which are simple yet complex as well.The simple words show Janes purity in mind，she is full of courage to pursue her love which presents her independent character.However，the emotion at that moment when she receives Mr.Rochesters proposal is complex.It contains so much joys and sorrows.The sweets and bitters she has experienced during the long road of pursuing happy life only be spoken out by several “ Yes，sir”，her strong mind and perseverance really influenced me deeply.

Being different from Jane Eyre，the reconciliation between Elizabeth and Darcy shows their emotions more obviously and directly.

“Mr.Darcy，I am a very selfish creature，and for the sake of giving relief to my own feelings，care not how much I may be wounding yours.”……

It is Elizabeth who breaks the ice and shows her sincere apology for her previous prejudice.It is really hard to be the first one who breaks the ice，especially for a woman.However，it shows her character of daring to act and daring to bear.Being faced with Darcys unexampled kindness，Elizabeth is willing to say sorry about her previous impolite words and behavior.I really appreciate this kind of personality.

“I am sorry，exceedingly sorry ……” Darcys reply really has a kind of dramatic change of his attitude.He always maintains and holds on to dominant position.But after Elizabeths sincere apology，he gets down from his high horse and describes his truly feelings.The misunderstanding seems gone in a twinkling and the relationship between each other is brought into harmony.

Whats more，in Pride and Prejudice，the author also describes the figures psychology.“Elizabeth，feeling all the more than common awkwardness and anxiety of his situation” This piece of description of Elizabeths mind presents her embarrassment when she was faced with Mr.Darcys emotional expression.

In Jane Eyre，the relationship between Jane and Rochester has experienced a transition from one stage（master and servant）to another（love with each other）.The ask-answer style seems like a servants obedience to her master，which actually hints their deep love to each other.It is this kind of form that promotes their reconciliation.

Compared with that，the description of reconciliation in Pride and prejudice is more explicit，Elizabeth and Darcy just clear up their misunderstanding directly and ask sincerely for each others forgiveness，the relationship from sharpness to harmony really hints the dramatic transition，which filled with unexpected surprise for meeting the audience and rich the plot in an attractive way.
