A Study of Shakespeare’s Creative Style

【Abstract】In the Renaissance， in the history of British literature， there was a great writer —— Shakespeare. In his life， he created numerous works and the most famous are four tragedies， four comedies. In Shakespeares life creation process， his creative style is not conservative， but changing with the background of the times and his own experience.

William Shakespeare is a great writer of the British Renaissance， leaving dozens of plays and hundreds of poems for later generations. His artistic creation style is unique. Marx has praised him as “the greatest comic genius of mankind”.

Shakespeares dramatic creation can be divided into three stages： early， middle and late stages. Each stage reveals a deep humanistic sentiment.

1. Shakespeares early creative style

In the early days of Shakespeares creation， Queen Elizabeth was in power. At that time the British political stability， economic prosperity and development， literary rich. Enlightened political environment and a stable life， which made Shakespeare full of hope on the development of the Renaissance. Advocating the humanistic ideal of life is the main feature of Shakespeares works during this period. The representative works are comedy “Midsummer Nights Dream” and the poem “Venus and Adonis”， and the whole creation often uses lyrical way. During this period， his creation has a bright and optimistic color， but also showed a strong romantic feeling. This is the first period of Shakespeares creation， the entire creation process is his creation of gold period.

2. Shakespeares medium-term creative style

In the midst of Shakespeares creation， the historical environment at that time was full of social conflicts in England. During this period， he created some tragedies of criticism of the dark society. Most of these tragedies based on the decadent feudal aristocracy and the suffering of the people at that time. The style of his creation from the previous bright， positive and optimistic changed into melancholy， grief. In this period， its representative is “Hamlet”. The classic drama hero Hamlet is such a ideal and reality in the contradictory figure， a typical aesthetic image. Study of Shakespeares creative style of this period， we find that the previous works of the kind of humanities and romantic color has gradually declined， replaced by some of the melancholy colors and sad feelings.

3. Shakespeares late creative style

The last period of Shakespeares creation was after 1608.During the period of the reign of James I， the society became more turbulent and the people were in vain. As a result of seeing such a tragic society， Shakespeares creation from the tragic tone gradually transformed into a dream tone. Although there is no early cheerful feeling， no medium-term hidden bitterness， it is full of fantasy for a better life. But this fantasy is only to stay in the imagination level. During this period， his most important representative was “storm”. Shakespeare described an ideal image of the kingdom in this work.

4. Conclusion

Shakespeare， as an outstanding writer and poet of the United Kingdom， has played a leading artistic position such as “Hamlet”， “King Lear”， “Romeo and Juliet”， “Othello” and “Macbeth”. He has made a great contribution for the United Kingdom drama and literature， even the world drama and literature development. Shakespeares legendary life rises by the Renaissance and the rise of this movement， but also accompanied by a wave of the decline of this culture. At the time of the social environment， Shakespeares unique style of creation also led the trend of the times. It has been said that Shakespeare， as a drama giant and a rare writer， his greatest contribution to mankind lies in its literature， which is quite different from other writers. Goethe also greatly praised Shakespeare will always use vivid words to move people. In his works， we can easily find the mystery， he can always be the characters in the works portrayed vividly， in characterizing the characters at the same time， its delicate emotional color will be revealed. His works not only have the traditional factors in which， it is constantly bold and innovative. For example， in his works， a large number of suffix gradually withdraw from the peoples vision， instead of a mixed adjective. At the same time， he boldly cited some new words and language， showed the works of the characters and complex emotions in front of the public， and established his own unique characteristics， which is still a lot of writers can not be a comparable.
