【Abstract】:Gone with wind is a famous novel written by American writer Margate Mitchell. The novel mainly focuses on the life of Scarlett O’Hara, the daughter of the owner of Tara Plantation before and after the civil war. Scarlett was born in the mid-nineteenth century, living in a rich family plantation owner in the southern Georgia. Scarlett is the sacrifice of the war and her courage and strong will are the valuable characters of American people after the war. This article will focus on the relationship among Scarlet, Ashley and Rhett.

ChapterⅠIntroduction
Gone with the wind is a novel written by the American writer Margate Mitchell. The novel focused on the love among Scarlett, Ashley and Rhett, and the background was the American civil war. The author not only created a myth, but also showed her own personal charm to the world. Heroine Scarlett was a simple but very complex figure. She had three marriages and at last, she lost them all. The tragedy is caused by her pride and the war. Scarlett is the sacrifice of the war and her courage and strong will are the valuable characters of American people after the war. This article will focus on the relationship among Scarlet, Ashley and Rhett. She finally married Rhett Butler who really loved her very much after Frank’s death. But she still pursued the unreal love to Ashley and never tried to know Rhett.she realize that the person she really loved was Rhett who always accompanied her and helped her. But it was too late; Rhett left her alone without hesitation. Scarlett still believed that tomorrow was another day.
ChapterⅡ The love between Scarlett and Ashley
2.1 Scarlett’s love to Ashley
Ashley was the one who seized Scarlett’s heart. Ashley was a gentle man. He read many kinds of books and enjoyed music very much. Perhaps it was his gentle that attract Scarlett. She always believed that Ashley loved her so much as other boys around her so when she heard that Ashley would marry Melanie she was shocked.
She wouldn’t give up and she would struggle for her love. The brave lady prepared to express her love to Ashley face to face. But when she told Ashley that she loved him, she was refused. Scarlett had always been full of confidence. She had deeply believed that she loved Ashley so that Ashley must love her. She couldn't accept that Ashley didn't love her and he was going to marry Melanie who was not attractive as Scarlett. Mostly it had been compounded out of vanity and complacent confidence in her own charms.
2.2 Ashley's love to Scarlett
“Love isn't enough to make a successful marriage when two people are as different as we are. You would want all of a man, Scarlett, his body, his heart, his soul, and his thoughts. And if you did not have them, you would be miserable. And I couldn't give you all of me. \"
He loved her but couldn't marry her. That was Ashley's love to Scarlett. When it came to the war, Ashley asked Scarlett to take care of Melanie. In his heart, Melanie was the most important person. So his love to Scarlett was not really love.
ChapterⅢ The love among Scarlett and Rhett
3.1 Scarlett's love to Rhett
Scarlett first met Rhett was at the barbecue held in the Wilkes--at that time. Scarlett heard that Rhett didn’t have a good reputation. Because he had heard the talk between Ashley and her, so she was fed up with him. But at the following days, Rhett helped her a lot and she loved him. Unfortunately, she didn’t know that she had loved Rhett and hurt him. Not until Melanie died did she know that she had loved Rhett so much. But it was too late; Rhett was gone and left her alone.
3.2 Rhett’s love to Scarlett
Rhett first met Scarlett was at the barbecue held in the Wilkes--at that time, Rhett was not welcome among those people because of his bad reputation. He witnessed the whole process of Scarlett confessed her love to Ashley, and even threw a vase. Since then, Rhett thought Scarlett a candid girl-- she dared spoke out what's in her mind, and even threw a vase, He fell love with her. Tough Rhett often jeered at Scarlett, and he still had the deepest feeling of love to her. Rhett clearly knew that Scarlett loved Ashley .But he decided to give her love and satisfy her needs. The war broke the city, people all fled from the war.He turned a horse go through the street, he protected and comforted Scarlett.He gave her the instant help and we can realize his true love to her.
Rhett provided her a comfortable life. Scarlett needn't to be worried about food, money and the family was fed. She didn't have any burden of life. Scarlett could participate in parties, danced like others, and she was happy to be a charming woman again.
ChapterⅣConclusion
Gone with the wind is the only book written by Margaret Mitchell. From home and abroad, many scholars have studied the masterpiece. It is a work deserved to be learned. In this paper, the love between Scarlett, Ashley and Rhett is chosen as one main aspect to be concerned.
The love among Scarlett, Ashley and Rhett is complicated. Ashley, a gentle man who was loved by Scarlett for many years, didn’t love Scarlett heartly.Rhett’s love to Scarlet was clearly shown in the work. He understood Scarlett so much that he knew what she liked and wanted. Rhett knew that Sarlett loved Ashley but he forgave her and wished she would love him someday. However Rhett loved Scarlett so much, Scarlett didn’t understand him.
By analyzing the love among Scarlett, Ashley and Rhett, we could find that the reason for Scarlett’s tragedy was her vanity and the force of the civil war. Learning that, we readers could get a better understanding of Scarlett, Rhett, Ashley and the love among them.
