A Taste of 1）Thar Desert’s New Solar Pumped Water

Water is a precious 2）commodity in this desert region of Thar. Women have to walk for miles to fetch water from underground wells， and this water is often 3）contaminated and 4）brackish. Now the government has initiated one of the biggest solar-powered 5）desalination plants here in Thar Desert. They’ve installed these European pumping machines to get underground water out of there and they’re storing it in these huge tanks. They are pumping this water through the pipelines for storage， and…which is then filtered and provided to local villages and local towns.

Well， inside the plant the underground 6）saline water is sent into these blue tanks for initial filtration. Afterwards they go through this technology here. But the real microlevel filtration takes place in these wide vessels that use American 7）membrane technology. The process is called 8）reverse osmosis. It essentially uses a lot of pressure to filter this water. And maybe we can just take a little sip of this water and see how it tastes like. Tastes fine to me.

水是塔爾沙漠地區的珍貴日用品。女人們必須步行至數英里外的地下井取水，所取得的還經常是受到污染的咸水。如今，當地政府在塔爾沙漠這里建造了太陽能淡化水設施，這是世界上規模最大的太陽能濾水設備之一。他們安裝了這些從歐洲進口的水泵，先抽取地下水，再把水存在這些大水池里；然后利用管道抽水，將它貯存起來……接著進行過濾，供本地村鎮使用。

在工廠里面，地下咸水被送入這些藍色的水箱進行初步過濾，隨后要通過這里的技術裝置。不過，真正意義上的微過濾是在這些大型管道中完成的，采用了來自美國的膜技術——這就是所謂的“反滲透”，其實就是通過巨大的壓力對水體進行過濾。也許我們可以來嘗一小口，看看這水的味道如何。我覺得還不錯呢。
