As an old country having a five-thousand- year history, Chinese catering culture is also extensive and profound. As we all know, culture and food have go hand in glove, and Chinese dish name's translation also has unique Cultural connotations and features.

In this paper, I will shallow release translation skills of dish name of Chinese catering culture from these aspects: Chinese catering culture, Chinese dish name and principles for translation of Chinese dish name and Practical principles.

2. Chinese catering culture and Chinese dish name

Though social scientists and anthropologists have been having controversy on the definitions of what is consisted in culture, culture itself has some features that we all agree on. First and foremost, culture is symbolic. That is to say, culture is based on symbols which consist of abstract ways of referring to and understanding ideas, objects, feelings, or behaviors and it is also based on the ability to communicate with symbols using language. A certain ground of people would probably share the same or similar kind of culture because they live together in the same area and therefore share the resembling belief or methodology of doing or viewing certain things. Only when we know them well can we bring it to a high level in this Modernism world.
