Whenever we read about the Internet, it’s mostly bad news—it’s making usmove less, worry more and spend less time with others. But hold on just a second, because researchers from the University of Oxford say past studies have been donetoo much about the experiences1 of people in the world’s richer countries.
In fact, they found that when they looked at the experiences of people allaround the world, the Internet was associated2 with better well-being. The studyfound that internet access3 and use were always associated with well-being.
According to the results, people who had access to the internet had higher levels4 of life satisfaction5 than those who didn’t have access. One of theresearchers, Matti Vuorre, said he was surprised by the results. The University ofWarwick’s Shweta Singh, who was not in the research, told she would“love to agree”with the research. But she said too much other things showed thatthe Internet and social media just aren’t safe.
