一、如豆燈火

I.Dim Glow

木鐸金聲，清越悠揚(yáng)。國民教育，茲事體大。

The golden sound of Muduo has been echoing on campus,reminding people that education is a top priority for a nation.

1902年12月17日，京師大學(xué)堂師范館首期學(xué)生開學(xué)，中國高等師范教育在山河破碎的華夏大地上萌芽。

December 17th,1902,saw the birth of teacher training in China's higher education in hard times;the first students entered the Education Department of Imperial University of Peking.

從京師優(yōu)級師范學(xué)堂到北京高師，再到1923 年國立北京師范大學(xué)成立，一代先驅(qū)弘揚(yáng)“教育為國家命脈，師范為教育胚胎”理念，布道傳薪，振鐸興庠。

From the Supreme Education School of Peking to the Advanced Education School of Peking,and to the National Beijing Normal University in 1923,generations of pioneers promoted the idea— Education,vitals of the nation;teachers,buds of education.Guided by this,they devoted all to high-quality teacher training.

1937年，在抗日戰(zhàn)爭全面爆發(fā)的烽火中，北平大學(xué)、北平師范大學(xué)、北洋工學(xué)院和北平研究院受命西遷，設(shè)立西安臨時大學(xué)。后遷漢中、城固一帶，改稱“西北聯(lián)合大學(xué)”，這是西北首座國立綜合大學(xué)，與名聲赫赫的西南聯(lián)大并稱雙子，同樣群星閃耀。

In 1937,at the surge of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,Peking U niversit y,Peking N ormal University,Peiyang College of Engineering and National Peking Research Institute,moved westward,and were merged into Xi’an Temporary University.It later turned into National Northwest Associated University in Chenggu,Shaanxi Province.It is the first comprehensive national university in Northwest China,as renowned as National Southwest Associated University.

并序連黌，卌載燕都迥。聯(lián)輝合耀，文化開秦隴。

After 40 years of hard work in Beijing,the four institutions jointly initiated higher education in Northwest China.

1939年，由原北平師范大學(xué)構(gòu)成的西北聯(lián)大教育學(xué)院，組建為國立西北師范學(xué)院。

Originating from Peking Normal University,the Education College of National Northwest Associated University turned into National Northwest Normal College in 1939.

1941年，作為北平師范大學(xué)的遞嬗與繼承，為西北之發(fā)展、民族之復(fù)興，國立西北師范學(xué)院在蘭州設(shè)立永久校址，發(fā)展為西北最大的文化堡壘。

In 1941,National Northwest Normal College evolved from Peking Normal University,settled in Lanzhou and turned itself into a prominent cultural center,contributing to the development of Northwest China and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

存續(xù)薪火，吾道西行。師生們徒步翻越巍峨秦嶺，篳路藍(lán)縷，重整黌舍。艱苦卓絕的大遷徙，見證著西遷師生們教育救國的拳拳信念。

Climbing over the Qinling Mountains while surmounting all hardships and difficulties,students and scholars ventured westward and built a new campus — the arduous journey told of their determination to save the nation through education.

“壩上長夜，七星燈火”—照耀著一代知識青年們的艱辛征途，激蕩著一代師生們矢志不渝的家國情懷。

The dim glow on the campus broke the long night,enlightening the younger generation and cultivating their unswerving patriotism.

“拓荒西北，弘揚(yáng)教化”—振鐸長河，讓師范精神得以發(fā)揚(yáng)光大，這次西遷不啻為中國高等教育史上的一次“長征”。

The westward move is seen as a "Long March",initiating higher education in Northwest China,and glorifying the spirit of the University.

師范一脈，源遠(yuǎn)流長。以一豆微光，映燦爛星河。

The dim glow of teacher education,enjoying a long history and promising a bright future,has grown into a galaxy of stars.

二、掌燈西北

II. Northwest Beacon

大漠孤煙，長河落日。知術(shù)欲圓，行旨須直。

The features of the west deserts and the great river inspired the University's motto:Study,to seek wisdom.Practice,as models of integrity.

在黃河岸邊的一片荒灘上，西北師范學(xué)院師生們艱苦備嘗，從一挑土、一擔(dān)水開始，親手設(shè)計、締造校園，讓教育的火種在西北大地向下扎根、向上生長。

On a barren land by the Yellow River,students and scholars designed and built the campus from scratch,rooting the seeds and bearing the fruits of higher education here.

從此，西北師大人浸潤著大河氣質(zhì)，滋養(yǎng)著西北品格，與這片黃土地血脈相連。

Since then,the University,nurtured by the spirit of the river and the land,has gained braver y,perseverance and tolerance in its personality.

1949年8月，在解放蘭州的號角中，獲得新生的西北師范大學(xué)將“為黨和人民辦大學(xué)”作為崇高使命，成為“人民教師的搖籃”。

Upon the liberation of Lanzhou in August,1949,Northwest Normal College built itself into the "Cradle of People's Teachers" with the noble mission to "run the university for the Party and the people".

西北有高樓，上與浮云齊。

Northwest Normal University ranks among the top universities in Northwest China.

聚“公誠勤樸”之士，奉“掌燈而立”之職，扛“弘文勵教”之鼎。

The University held outstanding talents together,and performed its pivoting role in education in Northwest China.

自肇基之日始，張百熙、李蒸、黎錦熙等一代先賢高瞻遠(yuǎn)矚，確立了百廿師大的精神海拔。

Since its inception,Zhang Baixi,Li Zheng,Li Jinxi and other scholars and professors with great vision have scaled the spiritual height of the University.

中華人民共和國成立后，歷任校領(lǐng)導(dǎo)班子不負(fù)使命，砥礪前行，延攬大批名師，令學(xué)校群星璀璨、人才濟(jì)濟(jì)。

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949,all the successive administrations of the University have made a continuous endeavor to advance the development by inviting prominent talents.

改革開放中，西北師范大學(xué)高擎師范大旗，培桃育李，讓隴原大地塬峁芬芳。

With the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy,the University upholding teacher education as its noblest mission,has produced numerous qualified teachers for Northwest China.

邁入新時代，西北師范大學(xué)率先開展“新師范”教育創(chuàng)新行動，開啟師范教育新篇章。

In the new era,the University pioneered the educational innovation program of "New Teacher Education",opening a new chapter for its development.

從燕山腳下到漢中盆地，從秦嶺南北到黃河之濱，一代又一代師大人賡續(xù)西遷精神，秉承“知術(shù)欲圓，行旨須直”的校訓(xùn)，將“愛國進(jìn)步、誠信質(zhì)樸、艱苦奮斗、自強(qiáng)不息”樹立為西北師大人最深層的精神追求和最獨特的精神標(biāo)識。

All the way from Beijing to Hanzhong and then to Lanzhou,generations of students and scholars,carrying forward the pioneering spirit and abiding by the University's motto,have inscribed the idea of "patriotism,integrity,perseverance and persistence" as their ultimate spiritual goal and unique traits.

袁敦禮、呂斯百、常書鴻等大師巨擘，開中國現(xiàn)代高等體育、美育教育之先河。

Yuan Dunli,Lyu Si bai,Chang Shuhong and other great educators were among the pioneers for modern higher physical and art education in China.

孔憲武先生半個世紀(jì)上下求索，摸清了西北植物資源的“圖譜”，從而奠定西北現(xiàn)代植物學(xué)的發(fā)展基礎(chǔ)。

After exhaustive research for half a century,Professor Kong Xianwu mapped out the botanical systems in Northwest China,paving the way for modern botany.

南國農(nóng)先生留美歸國走進(jìn)大西北，以半生精力樹起“電化教育”旗幟。

After studying in the USA,Professor Nan Guonong came to the University,dedicating himself to the rise of e-Education ever since.

郭晉稀、李秉德、胡德海等先生義無反顧投身西北教育事業(yè)，弘文勵教，把科學(xué)文化火種灑滿西北高原。

Guo Jinxi,Li Bingde,Hu Dehai and many other professors committed themselves to the education system,sparkling the wisdom of science and culture over the Loess Plateau.

一代代師大學(xué)人，胸懷教育報國的理想，扎根西北，默默耕耘，他們連綴成百廿師大歷史長河中的熠熠星光。

Generations of intellectuals,with the aspiration to serve the country in education,have accomplished great achievements in Northwest China,shining like crystals in the long course of the University's history.

三、燦爛星河

III. Galaxy of Talents

百廿歲月，是一脈薪火傳承；百廿師大，是一座教育豐碑。

The legacy of the University has been carried forward for six score years,turning it into a monumental institution of education.

百廿弘文勵教，八秩深耕隴原，萬千桃李芬芳——在蘭州辦學(xué)的80年，西北師范大學(xué)緊緊圍繞基礎(chǔ)教育、農(nóng)村教育、民族教育事業(yè)發(fā)展需求，建立了從普通教育到職教師資全專業(yè)、從中心城市到偏遠(yuǎn)農(nóng)村全領(lǐng)域、從學(xué)前教育到高等教育全層次的教師教育體系，搭建起大西北教師教育框架的“四梁八柱”。

Over the past one hundred and score years,the University has been committed to the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of culture in Northwest China.After being relocated to Lanzhou in 1941,the University has been focusing on basic,rural and ethnic minority education,setting up a whole framework,ranging from regular to vocational education,from urban to rural education and from pre-school to higher education.

從李蒸校長提出“普及教育，闡揚(yáng)文化”的理念，到如今“七高一體系”高水平大學(xué)的建設(shè)行動，西北師范大學(xué)始終堅守師范教育陣地，不斷探索輸出師范教育特色鮮明的“西北師大經(jīng)驗”。

From the concept of "making education and culture universal"by Professor Li Zheng,to the construction of a high-level university with the "Seven Highs and One System" approach,new methods have been explored and experience has been shared with other universities.

趙逵夫教授帶領(lǐng)西北師大新一代學(xué)人焚膏繼晷，潛心學(xué)術(shù)，堅守講臺，發(fā)微闡幽，先秦文學(xué)研究蜚聲海內(nèi)外。

Leading the younger generation of scholars,Professor Zhao Kuifu has been dedicated to research and teaching.His team has achieved national and international fame for the studies of pre-Qin literature.

杰出校友李得天院士，30多年扎根蘭州，仰望星空，他自主設(shè)計的我國首臺超高真空標(biāo)準(zhǔn)裝置，為月球探測等國家重大科技工程保駕護(hù)航。

Li Detian,a CAS member and one of the outstanding former graduates,has been based in L anzhou for over 30 years.He independently designed China's first ultrahigh vacuum standard equipment,which is essential to lunar exploration and other key national high-tech projects.

“全國教書育人楷模”王宗禮教授樂教治學(xué)，碩果盈枝，桃李滿天下。

Professor Wang Zongli who honored with "National Model of Teaching and Education",has been committed to education with great achievements.

長風(fēng)破浪會有時，直掛云帆濟(jì)滄海——今天的西北師范大學(xué)主動融入“一帶一路”建設(shè)，不斷拓展合作辦學(xué)領(lǐng)域，將中華優(yōu)秀文化遠(yuǎn)播海外。

The best time comes to ride the wind and cross the sea.Today,the University has involved itself in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative,expanding international cooperation to help the fine Chinese culture go global.

書生報國無他物，唯有鐵血與丹心——為民族救亡挺身而出，為抗美援朝攜筆從戎，為捍衛(wèi)主權(quán)血灑邊關(guān)，清澈的愛，只為中國。愛國主義始終是百廿師大的紅色基因和鮮明底色。

Students and teachers have nothing to offer but bravery and loyalty.Some stood up for national salvation,some fought the War to Resist U.S.Aggression and Aid Korea,and some shed blood on the border defending our sovereignty — they did all out of pure love only for the motherland.The University has been holding patriotism as its tradition ever since its founding.

Advancing over the pastsix score years,the University is setting out on a new journey.The "dim glow" in China's teacher education 120 years ago has now grown into the "beacon"of educational development shining over the Yellow River in Northwest China.Deepening its root in China and holding fast to the Chinese Dream,Northwest Normal University is charting a promising map of building a first-class university on the way to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
