IV. 完形填空

與原來的完形填空題相比，選詞填空型完形填空更注重考生對篇章語境中詞匯的理解和實際運用的能力，更好地測試考生掌握詞匯的情況。解題時：1. 瀏覽選項，詞性分類，縮小范圍。2. 速讀全文，了解大意。3. 閱讀文章，定位準確，進一步縮小范圍，確定答案。4. 再次通讀全文，核對答案。

V. 閱讀理解

閱讀能力和理解能力是靠大量的閱讀和訓練來培養的，閱讀技巧和方法是在閱讀過程中形成的。閱讀時應做到：1. 帶著問題閱讀短文。2. 找出主題句，確定中心思想。3. 推斷單詞、句子和文章的含義。4. 盡快選出答案。5. 驗證答案。

Charlie was a mailman. Six days a week he rode his bicycle from village to village delivering （投遞） letters. He knew everybody and everybody knew him.

“Here comes Charlie，” the children called， and their parents came to the doors of their houses. Everybody liked Charlie， and of course everyone especially liked getting letters.

“Something for you today，” Charlie would call， and he would get off his bicycle and take a letter or a package out of the bag.

Or he would say， “Sorry， nothing for you today，” and rode on.

Even the dogs knew and liked Charlie， and although they barked （吠） at strangers， they never barked at him.

Except for one dog. Its owner， Mrs Taylor， moved to the village five months ago， and every time the dog saw Charlie， it started barking.

When he came to Mrs Taylors house， Charlie rode his bicycle faster. There were never any letters for her， so he did not have to stop.

Then one day， there was a letter for her. Charlie stopped his bicycle far away from Mrs Taylors house. The dog started barking. Mrs Taylor came to the door.

“A letter for you！” Charlie shouted.

“Why cant you bring it to me？” Mrs Taylor shouted back.

“What about your dog？” Charlie said. “I dont want it to bite me.”

Mrs Taylor laughed. “Dont be frightened，” she said. “Everyone knows the old saying： A barking dog never bites.”

“You know the old saying， and I know the old saying，” Charlie said， “but how do we know that your dog knows it？”
