Promoting the fighting spirit against the pandemic and planning a new chapter of nursing

2020 has been an extraordinary year.After the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19),vast numbers of nurses have made an exceptional contribution to improving the recovery and reducing the mortality of patients.On International Nurses Day,President Xi Jinping extended festive congratulations and sincere condolences to nurses nationwide,and fully affirmed their important contributions in winning the battle against the pandemic in China and ensuring the safety and health of people in all countries.This is a great encouragement to us.We will bear in mind the President’s instructions,implement the fighting spirit against the pandemic in our work,insist on the people’s supremacy,importance of putting life first,and ensure the health of the people.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic,under the correct leadership of the National Health Commission and the China Association for Science and Technology,the Chinese Nursing Association(CNA)issued a“Scientific Prevention and Control Active Response”initiative to nurses across the country,provided protective supplies to support the frontline,disseminated pandemic prevention and control knowledge on the association’s official website and WeChat platform,and organized and published expert consensus.The nursing journals sponsored by the CNA launched special issues on nursing patients with COVID-19.The CNA strongly commended the “Outstanding Nursing Workers” fighting against the pandemic and held the Belt and Road nursing meeting online to exchange China’s anti-pandemic experience.

After making significant achievements in pandemic prevention and control,the CNA actively promoted the resumption of work,and vigorously carried out online training and academic conferences with hundreds of thousands of participants.At the same time,various tasks such as establishing group standards,promoting health and alleviating poverty,conducting scientific and technological awards,completing scientific research projects,and constructing popular science bases have all proceeded normally.As a result,the CNA won the awards of“Excellent Anti-pandemic Association”and“Excellent Poverty Alleviation Association”from the China Association for Science and Technology in 2020.

In 2020,we have gone through an extraordinary spring,summer,autumn,and winter,together with the people of the whole country.No matter the difficulties,current challenges will not defeat the heroic Chinese people.At present,the pandemic is still spreading all over the world,and the importance of domestic pandemic prevention and control should not be forgotten.Nursing workers should be cautious and defend their positions to consolidate their achievements of pandemic prevention and control.

The year 2020 is the final year of the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan and the final sprint of the first Centennial goal of building a moderately prosperous society.The Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China put forward the long-term goal of building a healthy China by 2035 from the perspective of the overall development of the party and the state and made clear arrangements for comprehensively promoting the construction of a healthy China and implementing the national strategy of actively coping with the aging population during the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan.“Putting people’s health in the strategic position as a priority to development”has brought us greater development opportunities.The CNA will work closely with nursing workers all over the country to seek a new chapter in the development of the nursing profession.We should take the needs of people’s health and nursing workers as guidance,focus on personneltraining and improving the ability and level of responding to major public health emergencies,and protect people’s safety and health with professional skills and dedication.The new journey outlines the path to forge ahead,the new mission stirs up the enthusiasm to overcome struggle,and the new requirements forge strong strength!Nursing workers across the country will firmly move forward towards the goals!
