“粉身碎骨”如何英譯

2019年10月13日國家主席習近平在加德滿都同尼泊爾總理奧利會談。奧利表示，尼方堅定支持中國維護主權和領土完整，堅定奉行一個中國原則，堅決反對也決不允許任何勢力利用尼泊爾領土從事反華分裂活動。習近平強調，“任何人企圖在中國任何地區搞分裂，結果只能是粉身碎骨;任何支持分裂中國的外部勢力只能被中國人民視為癡心妄想！”

對習近平主席的表態，外媒普遍譯成：Anyone attempting to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones. 例如：

2019年10月14日《華盛頓郵報》（The Washington Post）報道：Speaking Sunday in Nepal， Chinese President Xi Jinping said any attempt “to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones.”

2019年10月14日英國《衛報》（The Guardian）載文說：Anyone attempt-ing to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones，” Xi Jinping said in a meeting with leaders during a visit to Nepal on Sunday， according to Chinas state broadcaster， CCTV.

2019年10月15日美國之音（VOA，The Voice of America）說：On a visit this week to Nepal， Chinese President Xi Jinping said anyone attempting to split China “will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones.”

這里的“粉身碎骨”，外媒直譯為crushed bodies and shattered bones，這種譯法非常直白。而新華社英文稿則展現出些許委婉格調，只用了一個詞一筆帶過，減少視覺沖擊力：（Anyone attempting… will be） crushed。此處的crush義為“壓碎”。

關于“粉身碎骨”，還有兩種譯法。一種更直白，更血腥：be chopped up for mincemeat，字面意思是“剁成碎肉”。另一種則盡顯悲壯氣息，甚至有點兒浪漫：deserve to die a thousand deaths，即“應該死去一千回”。當然，在愛情小說里，如果男主人翁說“For the sake of love， I would die a thousand deaths.”（為了愛而粉身碎骨。），聽上去倒是一點兒也不覺得血腥，反而感覺很有癡情漢的浪漫情調。在此類語境中倘若用crushed bodies and shattered bones的說法，可能會把姑娘給嚇跑了。規而不拘，譯無定法，全看譯者的取舍標準，同時也得考量具體語境及對方的感受程度，一般不主張一字一詞的對等直譯。

中文成語“粉身碎骨”源于唐朝蔣防《霍小玉傳》：“平生志愿，今日獲從，粉骨碎身，誓不相舍。”解釋為“全身粉碎”，多指為了達到某種目的而不惜犧牲生命，也可比喻遭到徹底失敗或遭遇極大的磨難。例如：如果戰爭狂人膽敢輕舉妄動，發動戰爭，結果必然會被壓在大山底下，弄得粉身碎骨。（楊朔《東風第一枝》）英語可譯成smash body into powder and break the bones into pieces。

《漢英大詞典》《柯林斯高階英漢雙解學習詞典》等對“粉身碎骨”的英語解釋也有七八種，其實是大同小異的：be smashed to pieces、be beaten till ones bones are broken、be dashed [hacked] to pieces、be crushed to powder、grind someones bones to powder and make mincemeat of ones flesh、have ones body pounded to pieces、die the cruelest death等。

而網絡上對“粉身碎骨”的翻譯也就更多樣了，而且不乏委婉達意的譯例，摘錄句酷批改網（jukuu）、英漢互譯網（www.yinghanhuyi.com）上的一些例句：

1. 唯一的問題是：我什么時候會被炸得粉身碎骨？There is only the question： when will I be blown up？

2. 如果你已被炸得粉身碎骨，并弄丟了鋼盔，他們依然會給你寄賬單。If you get blown up and you lose your helmet， they still bill you.

3. 那只鳥粉身碎骨，成了幾根可憐的羽毛。The bird disintegrated into a few pathetic feathers.
