Analysis of Realism in Lu Yao’s The Ordinary World

【摘要】現實主義的運用可以更好地展現小說創作的獨特性和多樣性。縱觀路遙作品中關于故鄉的描述，是有生命承載力的，是交織個體與群體困苦生活狀態的，也是可以被每個個體去創新的。通過對路遙先生的巨作《平凡的世界》的分析，讀者能夠更加了解這部作品，以便更好地感受小說的魅力。

【Abstract】The use of realism in literature shows the peculiarity of a specific region and the variety of a social culture. Looking at the description of hometown in Lu Yao's works， it has life bearing capacity， interweaves individual and group's difficult living conditions， and can be innovated by each individual. By the analysis of The Ordinary World， readers can learn the writing techniques that Lu Yao used in his works and better feel the charm in the novels.

Introduction

In the 1920s， there were many young writers of China with deep concern for the countryside. Their works， strongly influenced by Lu Xun， were mostly concerned with the life of countryside and the sufferings of countryman. These were mainly realistic works.

I. Use of vernacular and colloquialism

In Lus The Ordinary World， the words depicting the characteristics of the mountains and rivers in northern Shaanxi： “shan beng beng” refers to the mountains; “yawawa” is cliff which is not that high. These words are very rich in the local characteristics and meaning of northern Shaanxi.

II. Influences of specific geographical settings

Lu used artistic style to show the distinctive loess characteristics of the northern Shaanxi landscape， so that the novel brings readers a strong sense of picture and sense of vision. For example， when the character， Xiulian， was in labor， it was in a terrible weather. The atmosphere portrayed was extremely depressed in order to hint Xiulians tragic end.

III. Homeland affection

The property on the plateau of northern Shaanxi raised Lu Yao， and Lu returned all his feelings to the soil. So he sang with the most beloved voice to the loess land. Under the dual influence of northern Shaanxi culture and Confucian culture， Lu Yaos works show a philosophical style and artistic charm of Chinese values.

Ⅳ. Conclusion

According to the analysis， the literary creation of writers root deeply in his personal experiences， especially the environment he grows up in， just like flesh and blood. At the same time， the works created by realists， always reflect the true situation of the whole society from their personal experience.
