Interpretation of “Autumn Night”

【Abstract】Lu Xuns “Autumn Night” is the opening work of “Weeds”， with strong symbolism color.Needless to say， with a relatively heavy and complicated， for the interpretation of “Autumn Night” is controversial， and here I mainly grasp the image of the cold autumn night sky and the gesture of “silent subway like” jujube tree image， as well as from Lu Xuns self image to interpret the inner psychological emotional change process， learn more about Lu Xun and “Weeds”.

“Weeds” has long been considered a difficult collection of prose poems，Prose poem “Autumn Night” has 10 paragraphs.I mainly divide prose poems into two parts from the internal emotional changes，In the sixth natural paragraph of the prose poem， “Wow， the evil bird that swam at night flew by.” As a transitional period of emotional change， and as a changing section， prose poetry as a whole is divided into two parts.

I. Soldier posture

Paragraphs 1 to 5 are the first part.The second and third paragraphs mainly describe the scene of the bitter autumn night sky. The fourth and fifth paragraphs are the independent images of jujube trees， which are also the core of the whole prose poem.“the bitter autumn night sky” with its flashing “cold eyes” will sprinkle heavy frost on the wild flowers and grass in my backyard；Under the severe frost， the little pink flower is still dreaming of the four seasons exchange and recurrence.In front of the quiet and mysterious power of nature， the little pink flower is small and insignificant， which makes the poet feel small and oppressed.We can also feel that the pursuit of life and the value of life in Lu Xuns heart began to shake. The lonely soul realized the dream of pink flower.The poet did not understand the strange and mysterious power of “the bitter autumn night sky”，The poet has self-doubt， the poets feelings of self-loss are directly exposed， so he began to avoid and even begin to dissolve.

Then the fourth and fifth paragraphs began to change.Another self in Lu Xuns heart suddenly appeared. In the battle between jujube tree and night sky， the jujube tree was scarred and ended with the jujube tree piercing the night sky. But he realized the dream of pink flower. He had a positive and optimistic attitude.This vivid image of jujube tree symbolizes Lu Xuns spirit of unrestrained and courageous struggle. It presents us an indomitable， warm-blooded and brave combat posture.

In this series of battles， the poets mind from the initial escape， doubt to fight， and finally to re-establish his position， which is a continuous process of exploring challenges.

II.Self-doubt

“Wow， the evil bird that swam at night flew by.” This is a transitional section and a natural “section” of the inner feelings of the poem. The last three paragraphs are the second part.“When the scarlet Gardenia blossoms， the jujube trees dream of pink flowers again，... the green onions bend into an arc... I hear laughter at midnight again； I cut off my mood quickly...” It can be seen that the two parts echo each other， and this is a cyclic process.Then， in Lu Xuns heart， the experience and understanding of life are also suspicious， the feeling of wavering still exists， there is still doubt about the combat posture.Just as Professor Li Yuming said in his interpretation of “Autumn Night”， the inner emotional rhythm （rhythm of poetry） in “Autumn Night” constitutes a unified whole... This is a continuous easing of reciprocation， showing the enormous contradictions and conflicts in the depth of Lu Xuns soul.In a word， the prose poem “Autumn Night” is an analysis of Lu Xuns self-inner spirit. It is a process of self-deconstruction and self-construction to feel the jujube tree image in the night sky through emotional changes.This suspicion also seems to confirm the recurring psychology of something， which also sets the stage for the writing of “Weeds” in the future.

“Weeds” is Lu Xuns experience of the existence of life and a profound analysis of himself.“Autumn Night”is one of the representative prose poems. Through experiencing the external strong power of dissidence， Lu Xun felt the sense of self-existence， established the image of jujube tree， presented the posture of fighters， proved the significance and value of self-existence； In the second part， it can be seen that Lu Xun wavered and doubted the first part.This prose poem is Lu Xuns self-dialogue， reflecting his loneliness and anxiety. Lu Xun realized that life is a contradictory， complex and cyclical psychological cognitive process.
