How to Improve the English Reading Ability of High School Students

Reading is not only the important content of English test， but also the key point and difficulty of our English study. Therefore， we must improve our English reading ability.As high school students， we should improve our English reading ability in the following aspects.

1. Stimulate interest in English reading

Interest is the premise of English reading.Only with a strong interest in English reading students can take the initiative to read English articles.Therefore， we can deepen our understanding of the culture of english-speaking countries， collect interesting English passages， develop our interest in English words， and further improve our enthusiasm for English reading.

1.1 Deep understanding of English culture

The English language is developed on the basis of the culture of the english-speaking countries.We need to know more about the culture of english-speaking countries.Only when we understand the culture of english-speaking countries we can truly understand the content of English articles.We should make full use of the Internet to collect the political culture， etiquette culture， customs and habits， national culture of english-speaking countries， so as to have a deep understanding of the culture of english-speaking countries.In addition， learning English culture can stimulate our curiosity and make reading more interesting.

1.2 Collect interesting English passages

Some students think it is difficult to read in English， and the reading is very boring.In view of this situation， we should actively collect some interesting English passages for reading， through reading interesting passages to stimulate our interest in English reading.We can start with English stories， English humor， jokes or English fables to enhance the interest of English reading.

1.3 Develop interest in English words

Words are the basis of our English reading.We should strengthen the study of English words.Therefore， when we learn English words， we can use the association method to connect the English words we have learned with the English words we have not learned， find out the relations and differences among them， so as to learn English words better.

2. Learn English reading skills

2.1 Read the main idea of the passage

In the first reading， we can use the rough reading to understand the main idea of the article and master the main meaning of each paragraph.If there are reading practice questions， we can read the questions first， after understanding the requirements of the questions.In the process of rough reading， mark the general position of the topic in the article.

2.2 Read the meaning of each paragraph carefully

In the second time， we can read the article carefully.When we encounter unknown words， we dont have to look them up in the dictionary. We can guess the meaning of the words according to the context. This method can exercise our understanding of the article.In intensive reading， we should outline the key phrases and grammar of this paragraph， analyze and memorize them， and strengthen the learning of basic English knowledge.

2.3 Understand the main idea of the article

When we read the third time， we can appreciate the articles and sentences well written and the phrases well used. In particular， we should accumulate the common phrases， idioms and common sayings in the articles， form a good habit of accumulation， and constantly improve our vocabulary.We should focus on reading the main ideas of the article， correctly grasp the main idea of the article， the article in-depth analysis.

2.4 Skip to find relevant information

When doing reading exercises， we can adopt the way of skipping reading. We can find the corresponding paragraphs and sentences according to the requirements of the questions， and then analyze them to find the answers.

3. Improve your reading motivation

The improvement of English reading ability requires us to have strong initiative and be able to read English actively.We should fully realize that we are the masters of English learning and give full play to our initiative in English reading.Only in this way we can improve our English reading ability.

4. Develop good reading habits

The improvement of reading ability requires good reading habits. Therefore， we must develop good reading habits in the normal learning process.We should plan our spare time scientifically to ensure a certain amount of time for English reading every day.We can also give ourselves the books to read， and choose some books related to the content learned in class or interesting and cultural English articles to read.In addition， we should keep reading every day.Only in this way can we become more and more aware of reading and improve our reading ability.
