Chinese President Xi Jinping said that enhancing BRICS cooperation not only protects and expands the interests of BRICS countries, but also helps explore ways to build a new type of international relations in a meeting with BRICS officials who were in Beijing to attend the seventh meeting of BRICS High Representatives for Security Issues on July 28.
Xi said the meeting was a success as it had made important preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit in China’s southeastern coastal city of Xiamen in September.
“As long as we follow the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win results, and work together to build closer BRICS partnership, we will surely have a second golden decade of BRICS cooperation,” Xi said. The foreign guests conveyed greetings from their respective leaders to President Xi, and extended support for China’s hosting of the upcoming BRICS Summit in Xiamen. They also agreed to closely work with China to ensure the upcoming summit is a success.
Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, South African Minister of State Security David Mahlobo, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Brazilian Institutional Security Minister Sergio Etchegoyen attended the meeting.
Chengdu
Launches Rail-Sea
Cargo Link to Southeast Asia
A cargo train left Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province on July 25, testing a new rail-sea cargo route to Southeast Asia.
The train, loaded with titanium dioxide and industrial ammonium phosphate, arrived at Beibuwan Station in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region 60 hours later. From there, the goods will be transported to Malaysia via sea.
The whole journey will take about 20 days. Previously, goods from Chengdu were transported via road and sea to Southeast Asia, which took more than 40 days.
The rail-sea link was launched to open a new means of transportation and boost bilateral trade. In the future, products from Southeast Asian countries can be transported to Europe via China on the rail-sea link which follows the ancient Silk Road route.
Chengdu is scheduled to open more cross-border cargo transportation routes leading to other Southeast Asian countries.
