Mobile Phone Using Among Youngsters

【Abstract】There is an apparent social phenomenon among youngsters. It seems that they can not live without their mobile phones which has triggers heated discussion in the society. This passage will analyze several causes about this issue and put forward a few suggestions in regard to improving youngsters mental world. The author hopes that students and young people may have more meaningful extracurricular activities after school or work. This objective is also made by many sociologists and psychologists.

Ⅰ. Introduction

As a senior high school student， I observe a social phenomenon which confuses me very much. Why nearly all students spend much time on their cell phones？ There are so many things to choose to kill their spare time， but playing cell phone is almost the most attractive one. I want to take my classmates and friends for example. When class is over or after school， they must take out their phones. It seems that there are so many things to do with mobile phones， such as updating microblog， sending the moments， chatting with friends， browsing webpages， shopping online and play dozens of mobile games. To tell you the truth， I also figure that my cell phone is very attractive， interesting and blinking to me. However， from my viewpoint， mobile phones should not occupy most of our spare time. There must be many other worthwhile activities can be chose by youngsters.

Ⅱ. The Reasons of This Phenomenon

When we try to analyze an issue， the first thing we want to make clear may be the causes of it. Through my observation and research， There are three reasons can answer why youngsters are so addicted to cell phones.

2.1 The Internet Makes Mobile Phones Powerful

About a decade ago， the main functions of mobile phones are only making call and sending short message. At that time， no one kills time with mobile phones because their functions are too simple and boring. On the contrary， with the development of the Internet， our mobile phones become magical phones. The Internet make it possible to enjoy colorful functions via the small cell phone. As a result， youngsters spend more time on it.

2.2 Mobile Phones Help Youngsters Relieve Pressure

In this highly competitive society， youngsters are facing huge stress every day. Students must study hard to cope with a number of examinations. Young workers have to work hard to make a living. After a tiring day， everyone longs to relax themselves. Mobile phones provide all types of ways to relaxing， such as listening to music， watching TV series play， shopping， chatting with friends and so on. In such a high speed life， playing mobile phones make us gain an easy time.

2.3 Using Mobile phones Is Rather Convenient

As we all know， mobile phones are small and light. Hence， we can take them to almost everywhere. We can use it when we are walking， eating or taking a bus， in the classroom， in the company or in our bed. Sometimes， we think taking a book with us is too heavy， so we read in phones. Sometimes， we argue the dictionary is too big to put it in the bag， thus we look up new words by phones. And sometimes， we believe the computer is inconvenient to carry with us， therefore the mobile phone is used to work. The mobile phone is so convenient that we would like to use it all the time.

Ⅲ. The Negative Effects Caused by Overusing Mobile Phones

Although the mobile phone has brought so many positive effects to modern society， overusing it can do harm to both our health and our mind， especially for youngsters.

3.1 Negative Effects for Health

Many evidences have demonstrated that some diseases have closely relations with too much mobile phone using everyday. Shortsightedness， cervical spondylopathy， scapulohueral periarthritis and some other common diseases can be aggravated because of playing mobile phones for a long time. Recently， there are also many reports about the negative effects for health caused by cell phones. It can be seen that people care for this subject very much.

3.2 Negative Effects for Mind

In addition to the negative effects for health discussed above， there are also some bad influences in terms of our mind caused by overusing cell phones. Youth is too precious to be wasted. If we always kill golden time by playing cell phones， how can we arm ourselves with knowledge and skills？ In order to meet a better yourself in the further， you must value your time everyday. Mobile phones make us relax， it is a meaningful thing. However， to much relaxation may let us lose motivation.

Ⅳ. Conclusion

From the discussion above， we can safely draw the conclusion that mobile phone using is a double-edged sword. On the one hand， it does create much convenience to our daily life. On the other hand， overusing it may cause apparent negative effects especially for youngsters. From my point of view， teachers and parents must take on more responsibility to instruct youngsters to use mobile phones reasonably. Only in this way can youngster manage their time properly.
