W: Excuse me, sir. I’m afraid you can’t take photos here.
M: Sorry, I didn’t see it.
Text 4
W: My dear, what would you like for lunch?
M: I’d like some dumplings, mom.
Text 5
M: Jane, do you go back to your hometown for the Spring Festival every year?
W: Yes. I usually go by train.
Text 6
W: Do you know much about English?
M: No, I don’t. What about you?
W: I don’t, either.

W: I like the film. The music sounds nice and the story is moving.
M: But it lasts three hours. It’s too long.
Text 8
W: Where will you go on vacation, Jaden?
M: Well, I prefer to go to Germany. But my parents like America. So I have to give up.

W: Did you have the meeting yesterday afternoon?
M: Oh, yes! I was almost asleep during that one-hour meeting.
W: An hour? But it seemed much longer, at least two hours, I thought.
M: That’s because it was too boring.
Text 11
W: Hello, Mr Brian. Do you have any books in your office?
M: Yes, I have 50 books. What kind of books do you want, Alice?
W: My teacher asked me to choose a new course this term. I want to learn something about online shopping. Do you have any books on this topic?
M: Yes, there are ten in all, but Lisa borrowed two of them the other day, and you can take the rest.
W: That’s great. Our exam will be on the first of December. Could I keep the books until then?
M: I’m afraid not. How about borrowing the books one after another?
W: Sure. By the way, have you finished your classes? If so, I’d like to go with you to get one of them.
M: OK. I’m going back to my office. Let’s go together.
Text 12
W: Good morning, doctor.
M: Good morning, Mrs Green. Well, what’s wrong with this young man?
W: He’s my son, Chuck. He’s got a headache.
M: Have you taken his temperature, Mrs Green?
W: Yes. His temperature seems to be OK.
M: How long has he been like this?
W: Since last night.
M: Did he eat anything this morning?
W: Yes. For breakfast he had a little bread and an egg.
M: Well, Mrs Green, I think he has caught a cold.
W: Shall I keep him out of school?
M: No, it’ll be right for him to go to school. Just take some medicine.
W: How often should he take this medicine?
M: Three times a day. I’m sure he’ll be all right soon.
W: Thank you very much.
M: You’re welcome.
Text 13
An old man lived in the country. He had two sons and one daughter. They were Jim, Bob and Amy. They left home to make money and became rich soon. This year they came back together on Father’s Day. Each of them had a gift for their dad.
Jim bought a big and beautiful house for Dad. Bob sent him a car and Amy’s gift was a parrot. The parrot could speak to Dad. After a big dinner they left. Their dad was very happy.
A few days later, Dad sent them letters of thanks:
“Jim,” he wrote to one son, “the house is so large. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house.”
“Bob,” he wrote to the other, “I’m too old to travel. I spend most of the time at home, so I don’t use the car.”
“Dear Amy,” he wrote to his daughter, “you really know what I like. The chicken was delicious. Thanks.”
