In 2015's 40 day Spring Festival travel rush, 3.7 billion people were moving from one point to another across China.

During this year's Spring Festival travel rush, China Southern is expected to carry more than 10 million passengers.

南航計劃在170余條熱點航線上增加航班近6000班次

China Southern plans to add nearly 6000 temporary flights on more than 170 busy routes.

在國際及地區航線上增加航班近700班

And nearly 700 international/regional flights.

The Chinese Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, is the most important traditional Chinese festival when the Chinese working elsewhere will go home for family reunions.This gives rise to a transport phenomenon unique to China D the Spring Festival travel season or Chunyun.

The Chunyun travel season, which usually lasts for about 40 days around the main event, the Lunar New Year, is a period of massive national public transport rush.Every year, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's central planning agency, will announce the dates on which Chunyun will start and end.Accordingly, transportation regulatory bodies including the National Railway Administration, the Ministry of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Administration of China will make relevant arrangements.Over the past 30-odd years, the number of people travelling during Chunyun rose from 100 million to 3.7 billion in 2015, which is equivalent to the sum of the population of all continents outside of Asia.

The peak of this year's travel rush is expected to come between January 29th and February 6th and between February 12th and 18th, while passenger fl ow will be relatively low on February.7th, 8th, 9thand 24th.Domestically, the busiest air routes are those connecting destinations in Southwest China with airports in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hunan and Hubei provinces as well as those between Northeast China and Beijing/Hainan where tourism always booms in the Spring Festival season.Internationally, air routes between Guangzhou/ Shenzhen and Southeast Asia/Japan/South Korea are always the busiest around this time of the year.

To meet the increasing demand during Chunyun, China Southern plans to add more than 6,000 extra fl ights on the 170 busiest domestic, regional and international routes.Among them, about 700 extra fl ights will be deployed to international routes and routes to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and more than 5,600 to domestic routes.More than half of these extra fl ights will depart from Guangzhou or Shenzhen.The routes linking Guangzhou with Wuhan, Changsha, Chengdu and Chongqing as well those connecting Shenzhen with Nanchong (Sichuan) and Guiyang are some of the busiest domestic routes.

To ensure that cheap airline tickets are available to passengers even on busiest days of the travel season, China Southern commits itself to a lowestprice guarantee exclusively for its Sky Pearl Club members.According to the guarantee, any Sky Pearl Club member who buys a domestic or international fl ight ticket via China Southern's of fi cial website, mobile app or WeChat account and fi nds out that the ticket price for the same fl ight sold elsewhere is lower, will be entitled to a refund of doubles the price difference as compensation (paid in the form of air ticket coupons).This assumes the complaint is lodged and proved true.However, it should be noted that complaints for domestic fl ights are limited to prices excluding taxes and fees (including airport construction fee, oil surcharge fee and others if any) while prices for international fl ights include taxes and fees.Furthermore, the amount of compensation for international fl ights is subject to a maximum of RMB1, 000 while that for domestic fl ights has no such cap.
