Early on February 14, 2011, in ABC's knowledge quiz show "Jeopardy!", Watson, a supercomputer developed by IBM won the competition with two champions, who were the best in the program since it was launched 46 years ago. This marks the arrival of another milestone in artificial intelligence research of humankind. After a lapse of four years, the super champion became a chef, and also published a book called "Learn Culinary from Chef Watson ".
American Institute of Culinary Education is cooperating with IBM to make the supercomputer, who has the deposit of enormous knowledge and is able to” think”, help design a cookbook. First, enter thousands recipes with a variety of regional flavors to Watson and utilize natural language understanding technology to analysize and recognize various ingredients and the matching relationship of ingredients and flavors as well as the composition of each dish ingredients. Then Watson will rearrange the combination of these information and design new recipes. Combined with the chemical nature of the ingredients and the favor of people on different cuisines, Watson will establish a feedback model of human taste on combinations for different tastes. Through the analysis of big data, Watson will be able to take advantage of the combination of ingredients people have not thought of in the past to create delicious and unexpected new recipes. After the modification of real chefs, these new recipes will be presented to us delicacies never eaten before! The chefs of the Institute of Culinary Education picked out 65 new recipes from the whimsy of ingredients combination from "chef Watson", and together with their shared cooking tips they create the book.
With Watson's help, the real chefs will have a broader space to play thus creating more and delicious cuisine. Watson can also help us reduce food waste by recommending recipes made by the rest ingredients at your home or in the hotel. It will remind you to be careful of food allergies, and help you find alternative ingredients which cannot be found locally. Watson now is 24 times faster in terms of computing speed and becomes 2,400 times smarter than in 2011 when he participated in the knowledge quiz while his body is only a tenth of the previous size.
On May 15, 1859, the French Physicist Pierre· Curie was born in Paris, France. In 1875, Pierre moved to Sorbonne when he was only 16 years old. He helped his brother organize lectures on physics in a medicine school there.
In 1898, Pierre and his wife Marie Sklodowska (Marie Curie) discovered radioactive substances, radium and polonium from asphalt ore by precipitation. During this period, they wrote a lot of papers and laid the foundation for atomic physics and chemistry research. In 1900, Pierre was promoted to professor in Science Colleague in University of Paris. In 1903, he and Marie Curie, together with Becquerel who discovered the natural radioactivity won the Nobel Prize in Physics. In that year, Marie Curie was awarded the Davy Medal of the Royal Society. In June 1905, Pierre and Marie arrived to the Swedish Academy, Stockholm to receive the Nobel laureate in person and make academic speech as regulated. In July, 1905, Pierre became the academician of the French Academy of Science.
