New Standard English Textbook for Senior Middle Schools(FLTRP Version )

is divided into 11 modules:learning compulsory modules 1 ~ 5 will meet the requirements of level 7 of New English Curriculum Standard(NECS)for Chinese Senior Middle Schools; Learning the sequential optional module6 ~ 8 will achieve the requirement of the level 8 of that.The organization of the Module.Each module consist of the following aspects:Introduction,Reading and vocabulary,Listening and vocabulary,Listening and speaking,Writing,F(xiàn)unction and everyday English,Grammar,Pronunciation,Cultural corner,Task.

Characteristics or Features of the Textbook

The first,the textbook follow the education philosophy of “people-oriented”on the basis of the learners' age and cognitive ability,giving full consideration to the students' developmental requirements on English learning and personality shaping and fully develop the students' comprehensive language application ability.

The second,the learning topic is diverse and language is native and moderate which is in accordance with high school students' interest and characteristics

Characteristics or Features of the Reading Material

Characteristics and Features of the reading material of NSE(New Standard English).Requirement of NECS for reading materials :close to students life and language level;extensive topics,diverse genres,thoughtful,interesting,informative and challenging and dynamic.NSE teaching material's topic is extensive,involving many aspects of social life,such as culture, entertainment,sports,animals,architecture,environment,science and social phenomenon,etc.NSE textbook genre is diversity.From module level 1 to 5,they include expository,narrative,argument,practical writing,and novels,among which exposition accounted for (48%),narrative accounted for(26%),business accounted for 10%,argument accounted for(9%),a novel accounted for 7%.It is clear that NSE textbooks are mainly on expository and narrative style.Reading materials are close to the student life,thoughtful,interesting and informative.The subject of Exposition,for instance,including science,network,art,language,natural disasters,the ancient invention,and the future society,etc.Activities and procedures of NSE textbook

Reading skills reacquiring specific training goal in the level7 of the NECS are:(1)can obtain and deal with the main information in the general articles;(2)can grasp the gist and the authors intention;(3)can guess the new words from context and understand discourse meaning;(4)able to reasoning through the clues in the article;(5)can obtain information from the network resources;(6)be able to read English newspaper or magazine designed for high school students;(7)beside textbook,extracurricular reading should be up to more than 230000 words.NSE textbook basically abide by the fundamental requirement put forward by the NECS that for the training of reading skills is from easy to difficult.

Suggestion for students to learn the textbook

(1)Got a better understanding of NSE textbook.After the overview of curriculum standard designed by the high school “New English Curriculum Standard”,the students can understand that which part of content is important in the NSE textbooks,which part can be generally understand,which part can be ignored directly.Not all the contents need to master in your textbook.NSE textbooks are written according to the“New English Curriculum Standard”,after a full understanding of the teaching material or textbooks the students will become more focused and simple.

(2)Be familiar with the general structure and goal of NSE textbook.Of NSE the students are supposed to have a general understanding of the overall structure of the system and clearly acknowledge the overall goals of the full set of 11 textbooks.

Suggestion for teachers to teach the textbook:

(1)Adjust the teaching materials.Teachers are expected to contrast contents and materials involved in the NECS and the requirements of National Matriculation English Test.Then he can can delete some unimportant and teach some reading materials in a quicker speed.

(2)Increase the learning interest of English textbooks.Its very significant to let students really enjoy learning English.

(3)Strengthen target or aim of the lecture.The extrinsic motivation of entering a college school is very strong,it is recommended that the teacher's lecture should focus on National Matriculation English Test more.
