Recently, the trend of transformation and upgrading in China’s exhibition industry is becoming ever more obvious, and the outbound exhibition industry is of no exception. Facing extreme competition, many professionals and experts are exploring the path of transformation. Zhiwei Cui, General Manager of Beijing CEW International Fair Co., Ltd, thinks that it is the service mode of exhibition agents, rather than other factors like exhibition destination regions or industrial sectors, that will enable companies to stand out among others. Back to the end of 2004, Cui sensed the huge business opportunities this would bring into the oil industry. Seeing that there was no agent in China specialized for international oil and gas exhibitions, he soon founded Beijing CEW International Fair Co., Ltd, the core business was as an agent for oil and gas exhibitions in other countries. Today, CEW Fair is the official agent for a series of leading exhibitions in the world. In addition, the company also participates in the organization work of a trade fair for pumps and valve in the UAE.

Meanwhile, competition from other agents as well as the ups-and-downs in oil and gas exhibitions due to market situation changes has slowed the business growth rate of CEW Fair. During 2005 to 2008, the growth rate doubled, but now, less than 50%. On the other hand, in many exhibitions, though with huge numbers of exhibitors and trade visitors, the efficiency of one-to-one business negotiation was, to a large extent, rather low.
The problems in the exhibition industry drive business opportunities for innovators. In order to better meet the matching needs of exhibitors and trade visitors in international trade fairs, three year ago, Cui took the initiative to develop the first purposebuilt exhibition appointment-making app called e-meet. Now, it is under final tuning process. With e-meet, exhibitors and trade visitors from all over the world will be able to search for information of each other and make pre-exhibition appointments to increase the business efficiency on site of the exhibitions. E-meet, however, as Cui points out, will not serve CEW Fair exclusively, but open to all interested users.
