行話趣話

“撞網(wǎng)！”“注意那里的出血位哦。”這是在編輯部里經(jīng)常聽到的兩句話。蜂蜜們別擔(dān)心，這里不上演動作片，也沒有流血事件，我們說的是出版行業(yè)的行話。其實，幾乎每一個行業(yè)都有自己的行話，這些話行內(nèi)人聽了心領(lǐng)神會，“外行人”聽了真是丈二金剛——摸不著頭腦。一起來了解幾個英語中的行話吧。

Something got me thinking about words that are really specific to a particular line of work， phrases that are kind of a secret code that nobody else would understand， but everybody in that world would know exactly what you’re talking about.

Movie 10-100

Host： A while back I was interviewing the actor and director Ben Stiller. And I asked him what filmmaking 2）lingo might fit this bill， an insider’s term from the movie set.

Ben： Do people use the term “10-100”？

Host： I have no idea what that means.

Ben： “Someone’s gone 10-100，” they’ve gone to the bathroom on a movie set.

Host： Oh， why is it 10-100？

Ben： I have no idea.

Host： Oh， come on.

Ben： I…I honestly don’t know. It’s 10-100. It’s like some sort of code. I thought it related to some military code or something. They go，

“Where’s…where’s Ben？” “He’s 10-1.” 10-1 is short for 10-100.

Host： Oh. It’s even shortened？

Ben： Yeah. It’s 10-1.

Host： Well， we checked and we can now let Ben Stiller know that 10-100 actually comes from 3）CB radio talk. You know， like 10-4 means OK. 10-100 is a bathroom stop.
