《萬物理論》：關于霍金的二三事

《萬物理論》是根據斯蒂芬·霍金第一任妻子簡·王爾德的回憶錄改編而成的傳記電影，講述了“宇宙之王”霍金的二三事。21歲，躊躇滿志、意氣風發的霍金來到了人生中最大的轉折點。那一年，他遇見了美麗動人的簡；那一年，他患上了肌萎縮側索硬化癥。此后，簡不離不棄地照料了他二十年；此后，他的身體被禁錮在輪椅上，思想卻遨游到廣袤的宇宙。

這部電影最出彩的要數“小雀斑”埃迪·雷德梅恩的表演了，憑借在這部電影中神一般的演技，小雀斑奪得了今年金球獎影帝。“小雀斑”詮釋的霍金，無論是外形還是眼神都無比真實，神還原不過如此。而影片中最動人的一幕莫過于簡俯下身，摸著霍金的臉，哽咽地說：“I have loved you. I did my best.”，四目相對，淚如雨下。再美好的愛情，也抵不過現實的殘酷。然而放棄了自己的一切，守護了霍金二十年的簡確實也無愧一句“I did my best.”。

1963年，21歲的斯蒂芬·霍金就讀劍橋大學研究學院，意氣風發。在一個新年派對上，他邂逅了正準備入讀倫敦大學的簡·王爾德，倆人一見鐘情。

Stephen： Hello.

Jane： Hello.

Stephen： Science？

Jane： Arts.

Stephen： English？

Jane： French and Spanish. What about you？ What， what are you？

Stephen： Oh， cosmologist[宇宙學家]， I’m a cosmologist. Jane： What’s that？

Stephen： Oh， It’s a kind of religion for intelligent[聰明的] atheists[無神論者].

Jane： Intelligent atheists？

Stephen： You’re not religious， are you？

Jane： C. of E. Church of England注1.

Stephen： England， yes. I suppose someone has to be.

Jane： What do cosmologists worship[崇拜] then？

Stephen： What do we worship？ One single unifying[統一的]

equation[方程式] that explains everything in the universe.

Jane： Really？

Stephen： Yes.

Jane： What’s the equation？

Stephen： That is the question. And a very good

question. I’m not quite sure yet. But I intend to[打算做] find out. Jane： Then why didn’t you stay at Oxford？

Stephen： Because my finals exams are such in shambles[屠宰場] that the examiners they summoned[傳喚] me in for a “Viva[口頭測驗]”， and they told me that if I got a second...

Jane： What’s a “Viva”？

Stephen： Oh， it’s， a sort of， mildly terrifying face-to-face thingy. Jane： Like an interview？

Stephen： An interrogation[審問]. And I told them that if they gave me a second class degree， then I’d stay with them and do my research at Oxford， but if they gave me the first， that I needed to get into Cambridge， then they would never have to see me again.

Jane： They gave you the first.

Stephen： They gave me a first.

Jane： Of course.

斯蒂芬：你好。

簡：你好。

斯蒂芬：理科生？

簡：文科。

斯蒂芬：英語專業？

簡：法語和西班牙語專業。你呢？你是……
