Although tulips are native to central Asia and were first grown in Persia and the Ottoman Empire, no country has cared more about tulip blooms than the Netherlands.
This simply named “kitchen garden” is a showcase for national growers[生長物], who provide seven million bulbs to create the world’s largest floral[花的] display. Purple crocus and hyacinths emerge[顯現(xiàn)] first, narcissi and daffodils add a trumpet[小號] fanfare[喇叭聲], then a symphony[交響曲] of tulips explodes in full bloom.

“Kew Gardens” has been at the forefront[最前線] of botanical research since 1759, with the planet’s largest collection of living plants, plus a vast library of botanical drawings and books.
The huge gardens have wandering[蜿蜒的] walkways that lead past a pretty palette[調(diào)色板] of spring blooms, from crocus and daffodils along the Princess Walk to hyacinths and narcissi on the parterres[花壇] of the Palm House. Woodlands are sprinkled[使散布] with bluebells and snowdrops, and the Rhododendron Walk is lined with pink blossoms.
At any time of year, the gardens’ 19th-century greenhouses explode with exotic[外國的] blooms and collections of palm trees and ferns. Don’t miss the charming Marianne North Gallery, which features[以……為特色] 832 paintings of exotic flora[植物群] by a well-travelled Victorian.
