Chris and his little brother， Pete， were camping out in the backyard（后院）.

“I hope you boys don’t get scared（害怕的） out here，” said Dad. “I won’t，” said Chris. “But Pete will.” “I will not，” said Pete.

Dad laughed*. “Well， if you get scared， you can come back inside（里面）. Good night， boys.” “Good night， Dad，” said Chris. “Good night， Dad，” said Pete.

“Good!” Chris said， getting into his sleeping bag. “I’m turning off* my flashlight（手電筒）.”

“I forgot* my pillow（枕頭），” Pete said. “Will you go to get it for me? Please?” Chris sighed（嘆氣）. He put on his tennis shoes and went in the house to get Pete’s pillow.

“Here!” Chris said， dropping（扔） the pillow on Pete’s head. “Comfy（舒服的） now?” “Yes，” Pete smiled*.

“Oh， no! I forgot Teddy!” said Pete. “Will you go to get him?” Chris sighed. He knew his little brother would never sleep without（沒有） his teddy bear.* Once again（再一次）， he went inside.

“Here’s Teddy，” said Chris. “Happy?” Pete gave Teddy a big hug（擁抱）. “I’m sorry I forgot you， Teddy.”

Pete got into his sleeping bag with his pillow and his teddy bear. Then he heard* a noise* and saw two yellow eyes in the doorway（門口） of the dark tent*. “CHRIS!” he yelled（大叫）. “A MONSTER（怪物）!”

Chris jumped up and looked for his flashlight.

“Meow（喵），” cried the monster.

Chris started laughing. “That’s not a monster! That’s our cat， Poppy!”

Then Pete fell asleep*. But Chris wasn’t sleepy（有睡意的） any more*.

Pack Rat liked to look for treasures. One day he found* a black rock（石頭）. “That would make a fine chair，” Pack Rat said to himself. Then he began rolling（滾動） the rock up the hill to his house.

Next， Pack Rat saw an old roller skate（四輪滑冰鞋）. “That would make a fast car!” said Pack Rat. “I could zoom down（急速向下） the hill every morning. A car is better than a swing.”

Then he left the yo-yo and began rolling the roller skate up the hill to his house. It was very big and hard* to push*.

As Pack Rat neared（接近） the top（頂部） of the hill， he found a large* pail（桶）. “Oh， that would make a lovely swimming pool*!” cried Pack Rat. “A swimming pool is better than a car.”

So Pack Rat left the roller skate. The pail was a lot bigger than the roller skate， but he began rolling it up the hill to his house.

At last， Pack Rat rolled the black rock up the hill to his house. He didn’t stop to trade（交換） his treasure for anything.
