“All calories count, no matter where they come from. If you eat and drink more calories than you burn off, you’ll gain weight.” In January of 2013, drink giant Coca-Cola has launched an advert relating to obesity for the first time on television in US. The two-minute ad highlights the firm’s record of making low-calorie drinks and reminds viewers all foods contain calories.
The video was not made in response to criticism of the soft drink industry, but is an effort to raise awareness.
—said Stuart Kronauge, division manager for Coca-Cola North America.
Meanwhile, New York City was preparing to ban large sugary drinks in restaurants, cinemas and stadiums.
Obesity is an important, complicated societal issue. It is incorrect and unjust to put the blame on any single ingredient, any single product, any single category of food.
—Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent insisted that the rise in US obesity was associated with many factors, and the public couldn’t put all the responsibility on his company.
