鉆禧女王：女王不易當

今年六月，英國女王伊麗莎白二世迎來了登基60周年的日子。英國各地都有許多大型的慶祝活動，英國王室又一次搶奪大家的眼球。對于許多人來說，當個女王可能就是意味著榮華富貴、養尊處優而已，但果真如此嗎？想起當年那部奧斯卡大片《女王》，其中英女王在個人感情和王室責任面前別無選擇的無奈還是讓人感到相當震撼的。要揭開英國女王生活的種種神秘，我們先從她的工作入手吧……

It’s morning in London. For most people an alarm clock is about to go off， but the Queen can’t hit the “snooze” button on hers. The Queen’s personal 1)bagpiper signals the start of a typical work day for someone with an atypical job.

It may seem she spends the day perfecting her wave， but she’s actually a hands-on 2)monarch who knows what’s going on.

現在是倫敦的早上。對大多數人來說，鬧鐘即將要響起，但英國女王卻不能按下“打盹”鍵。女王的私人風笛手吹起風笛，標志著這位肩負不平凡工作的女子開始了一個平凡的工作日。

Robert Hardman (Royal Historian): Wherever she is in the world on every day of the year except for Christmas Day， she’ll get a knock on the door and someone will hand her this rather battered old red case. In that will be great piles of paper， and she has to go through it. She has to sign some documents， read other things， and by the next morning it will all be done， and it’ll be handed back to a 3)footman who’ll take it back to the private secretary.

Once a year the Queen opens Parliament， and once a week she“ 4)pow-wows” with the Prime Minister. For a new Prime Minister， meeting the Head of State can be 5)intimidating， as seen here in the film The Queen. It’s an appointment the Queen has been keeping for 60 years. Since the movie was released

back in 2006， the Queen has added

two more prime ministers， but because

there’s no written records kept， only they know what’s been

said behind closed doors.

Cameron， the current British Prime Minister， has said that

she asks excellent questions that really 6)makes you think

about the way you are doing things. Nothing is going to get

past her. Don’t even try to 7)bluff her or 8)pull the wool over

her eyes， because she’ll 9)see it a mile off.
