Michael Garnier (Treesort Owner): Kids like it better than the 1)Ritz Carlton.
Kid A: It was like being in a rollercoaster without a car.
Now just what is a “2)treesort” ? Well, it’s the largest concentration of treehouses known to man that your family can sleep in, and it’s our pick for best childhood fantasy family resort.
Don George (Editor, Lonely Planet): I think families who have a real sense of 3)whimsy and fantasy are likely to love Treesort.
Michael: Well, it’s the only place like it in the world.
Everyone needs a secret 4)hideaway, and from 5)sleep-overs to club meetings, tree houses have provided refuge for generations of kids. Today at Treesort, Michael Garnier is fulfilling a lifelong dream to turn child’s play into a fun family resort.
Michael: For a lot of people, it brings them back to when they were a kid and had a tree house or watched 6)Swiss Family Robinson and wanted a tree house. So it brings out the kid in everybody.
Out ’N About Treesort is 7)nestled in an oak 8)grove in Takilma, Oregon, right next to Siskiyou National Forest. This picturesque little valley is the ideal spot for hiking, horseback riding and building our best childhood fantasy resort.
Michael: I like the work in the woods, I like working with wood and I found something that I could do that, and it happened to be tree houses.
With over a dozen 9)elevated cabins across 36 acres of forest, Treesort has a tree house for every 10)breed of family, whether you’re a pair of lovebirds or a tribe of eight. But this is hardly 11)rustic living. Most cabins come with beds, sinks and refrigerators and average around a hundred dollars a night.
Don: Sleeping in a tree, listening to the leaves 12)bustle in the wind, being even closer to the stars, there’s just something so fantastic about living off the ground up among the branches of a tree.
There’s no room service here at Treesort, and also, when you gotta go, you’ll have to go out, over and sometimes even down, so 13)sleepwalkers beware, ’cause if you 14)bark up the wrong tree, you may be in for a rude awakening. It’s two stories straight down.
If you’ve got little ones with an independent 15)streak, we recommend a “Swiss family” complex. Adults enter their room through a trap door and the children’s unit comes with a 16)pint-sized doorway and is loaded with tree toys.
Michael: It’s got a rope swing off of it, a bat pole and another rope to climb up and down.
And the kids love to walk the 17)plank at the pirate tree.
Kid B: Well, it was fun to rock it back and forth, ’cause it was like being on a real ship rocking on the ocean.
But if you get tired of playing 18)Blackbeard, you can climb 50 feet into the canopy and make like 19)Tarzan on the zip line.
Kid B: I was a bit worried at first, then I got on it and got it going and it was fun. I mean you think you gonna fall, but you can’t.
It’s Out ’N About Treesort in Oregon, and if you visit, leave the 20)vertigo at home because this family resort will take you to new heights.
Now, many of you may be thinking tree houses sound great, but are they safe? Well, a hundred square foot platform can hold 10,000 pounds. That’s enough for a full grown female elephant. So even if you’re a heavy sleeper, this resort can give you all the support you need for a silent night.
