While Hollywood execs were desperately seeking the next leading man， this 4)scrawny kid star (Holes) was slowly maturing into the 5)Gen-Y mover of their dreams. His big film， Transformers， grossed a massive $708 million worldwide. I think he’s fantastic.” He’s most often compared to a young Tom Hanks， but LaBeouf has built a template closer to Cruise， lining up action 8)franchises and then injecting them with emotion. Now he just needs to prove he’s got enough 9)stamina， and good sense， to keep his career 10)ablaze without getting burned by fame or 11)sidetracked by momentary 12)lapses in judgment.

There are few actresses that everyone in Hollywood seems to love， but right now Adams is everybody’s sweetheart. “She’s a total star，” says one top talent agent. “She’s really 13)versatile. She can do comedy or drama， studio movies or weird 14)indie. She’s got it all.” After scoring an Oscar 15)nom two years ago for her charmingly 16)offbeat supporting role in the indie Junebug， Adams has proved the range and depth of her talent， 17)tackling 18)broad comedy (Talladega Nights)， upscale drama (Charlie Wilson’s War)， and a main-stream family musical (Enchanted). That fairy-tale film， which earned $340 million worldwide， 19)endeared her not just to girls， but to the industry. “She has the most appealing nature，” says one producer. “If Walt Disney had not created Snow White， Amy Adams would have been that person.” Now she needs to stop sharing the screen with 20)high-wattage stars and focus on becoming one herself.

Now that she’s the darling of the indie world， what other 21)shenanigans can she get into? Plenty， if she plays her cards right. “Ellen has a choice，” says one producer. “Will she be Meryl Streep or will she be a big [box office] star?” So far， Page hasn’t dropped any big hints as to which direction she’s leaning. What’s certain is that she’s not going to be some 22)bland 23)ingénue， 24)dolling herself up for fashion shoots or 25)trolling out her personal life for the 26)tabloids. She’s played a 27)mutant in the last X-Men movie. Most important， Juno’s success ($228 million worldwide) has made Page a 28)cult icon to a generation of young women. “Audiences are looking for authenticity， 29)verisimilitude，” says a top studio exec. “She has that.”

Not only has this Scottish actor grabbed 30)coveted Oscar-bait roles 31)opposite Keira Knightley (Atonement) and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland )， but his actioner Wanted， costarring Angelina Jolie， has32)cemented him as one of the few serious actors who can headline a 33)high-octane adventure. “I can see him using Matt Damon as a career model， doing both franchise pictures as well as the big Oscar pictures，” says one agent. “And he seems to want that.” McAvoy’s neither rugged nor pretty， but is able to play both， and he looks like a man rather than a boy， which makes him ideal for romantic dramas. (It also helps that he’s able to 34)warp his heavy 35)brogue into a persuasive American accent.) “He’s not a conventional leading man，” says one studio exec， but “he’s going to have a long， interesting career.”

Could she be the next Julie Roberts? It’s a tall order， to be sure， but of all the contenders to the throne， Hathaway may have the best shot. After being launched from obscurity as the star of Disney’s $300 million worldwide-grossing Princess Diaries films， Hathaway 36)deftly left the 37)kiddie pool behind by polishing her acting 38)chops (and， ahem， baring her chest) in the R-rated， Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain. Then she held her own against no less than Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. “Annie’s just going to keep going up and up，” 39)raves one studio exec. “She can do anything.”
