The rapid growth of Internet information means the new challenge is how to make such a large volume[量]
meaningful rather than overwhelming[無法抵擋的]. It’s a task taken up by Andrew Scott, who describes his searching engine Rummble as “a location-based social search and discovery tool.”
The new online technology allows users to find personalized search results that are relevant
to[與……有關] their location. Your search results for
restaurants or shops, for example, are based on the recommendations[推薦] from your network of friends.
Scott explains, “As you use the service, it learns whom you trust for different types of content. You might trust a certain source for its taste in food, and others for their taste in fashion, music or books.”
Rummble can filter[過濾] and remove all the
“information noise,” giving the user a personal map through the jungle of data.
“This algorithm[運算法則]
is called subjective[主觀的]
logic,” says Scott. “We take into account a series of factors to be able to
calculate paths of trust in different people’s content.
We are building it to be cleverer and more
complex.”
And Rummble is not just about restaurants and shops. You can even find out, as Scott suggests, “the ten things nearby that you are going to like most.” He continues, “We have been trying to give people something more creative. I know the best place in
Tallinn[塔林(愛沙尼亞首都)], for example, to take a photo of the whole of the city from a hilltop.”
