Architects were asked to intervene a building done in the early 90's, in order to bring back the students to work in school. Besides that, architects had to: host some offices in one of the building's end, demolish some scales that were illegal and provide access to handicaps in the entire building. We were given a $100 dollars per m2 and 3 months of time.
Our diagnosis was that students were not working at school due to the size of the studios. Today, almost everybody works with a computer; with rooms designed to host about 15 students, control and security for everybody's equipment was not guaranteed. So we decided to divide those rooms in half of the original width creating a space for just 7 people, who can organized themselves easier, achieving more effectively the desired security.
One of the cons people saw in doing that, namely the reduction of the light coming in, ended up being a pro, since it avoided the uncomfortable reflections on the screens.
This change in the working space, meant a change in the way studios were traditionally used as well; production and “pin-ups”were unable to happen in the same room,as it used to be. Studios were going to be just to work;“pin-ups”were going to take place in the space created between the“old building”and the new regular box that wraps around the preexisting articulated shape.

Having a problem of money and time we decided to investigate the Chilean fruit packing industry for doing the skin: there we discovered some zinc plates that if injected with expanded Styrofoam were able to acquire resistance and smoothness. Besides being cheap, they proved to be extremely light (so easy and quick to build) and finished once installed. The absence of time was in the end the way to meet the costs.

The new skin's capacity to reflect ended up being the best way to respect the old adobe house, because it has made the building capable of disappearing in the corner of the eye.
