The delegation of the Salvadorian Association of Friendship with the People’s Republic of China (SAFPRC) headed by Juan Manuel Flores, mayor of Quesaltepeque visited Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai from April 19 to 28 at the invitation of the CPAFFC. Uyunqimg, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and Li Xiaolin, vice president of the CPAFFC, met with and entertained the delegation on separate occasions.
Vice Chairperson Uyunqimg talked about China’s principles and stance on the question of Taiwan. She said, the key to the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Salvador is the resolution of the Taiwan question. Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. It is the common aspiration of all the Chinese people including those in Taiwan to resolve the Taiwan question and realize the reunification of the motherland. The Cross-Strait Economic and Trade Forum held in Beijing not long ago showed the efforts made by the Central Government to promote cross-strait relations. The active participation by the Taiwan compatriots including some entrepreneurs with different political views was an expression of the wishes of the Taiwan compatriots for national reunification. Flores said, most people in Central America want to develop relations with China. Especially in the past few months, Salvador has developed great interest in China; many people have started to pay attention to the country’s economic and trade relations with China, which is conducive to the establishment of diplomatic relations in the future.
During the working conference between the CPAFFC and the SAFPRC, the two sides discussed in detail the programme of the Forum on People-to-People Friendship Between China and Seven Central American Countries which would be jointly held in October this year.
