
The Seminar on China-Spain Economic Cooperation was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province on March 23. It was an extension of the Third Meeting of the China-Spain Forum with the aim of gradually putting into practice the Forum’s guiding thinking, which emphasizes innovation and pragmatism. Lu Zushan, governor of Zhejiang and deputy secretary of CPC’s Zhejiang Provincial Committee, Hu Qili, chairman of the China-Spain Forum’s Chinese Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch, honorary president of the International Olympic Committee, Chen Haosu, CPAFFC president and executive chairman of the Forum’s Chinese Committee, He Zhenliang, member of the Executive Board of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, Liu Zhiming, CPAFFC vice president, Zhong Shan, deputy governor of Zhejiang, Zhang Weiwen, vice chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Political Consultative Conference (ZPPPCC), and others attended the opening session, which was chaired by Liang Pingbo, vice chairman of the ZPPPCC and president of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
In his speech Chen Haosu said, economic and trade cooperation is the focal point of the present meeting of the China-Spain Forum. The holding of the Seminar on China-Spain Economic Cooperation in Hangzhou and the active participation by the business people of both countries will surely bring new opportunities for bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Zhejiang has a rather developed private business sector. The small and medium-sized enterprises are doing brisk business and are going global. We warmly welcome the enterprises in Zhejiang joining in the trade and economic cooperation between China and Spain.
Samaranch said in his speech, I am very happy to be here with you in the beautiful city of Hangzhou. We shoulder an unshirkable duty and should make added efforts to promote economic and trade cooperation between China and Spain. China is a great country. Many Spanish enterprises have come to China. I hope that more Spanish enterprises will come to invest in China and more and more Chinese enterprises will go to Spain to seek development.
Governor Lu Zushan said, economic and trade cooperation is an important area of China-Spain cooperation. Zhejiang is one of the most economically robust provinces in China and many entrepreneurs of the province have invested in Spain. We hope to make more new Spanish friends and cooperation partners through this Seminar. We also warmly welcome more Spanish entrepreneurs to come to Zhejiang to find opportunities of development.
Present at the Seminar were about 100 personages from business circles of Spain and Zhejiang.
On the evening of March 22, Xi Jinping, secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPC and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress, met with Samaranch, chairman of CSF’s Spanish Committee, and other Spanish participants of the Seminar.
