Should university canteens be open to the public？ This is a topic heatedly discussed on campus recently. As far as I can see， school cafeterias should be exclusively for college students and faculty members.

Canteens are more than just a place to eat. It’s a space where students relax， recharge and build a sense of community. So it is necessary to keep the university canteen quiet and clean， free from any disruption. Another reason is school canteens’ limited space， which is hardly adequate to accommodate swarms of non-student diners. College students already find it difficult to find a vacant seat in canteens during peak hours. There are also safety concerns. It is not uncommon to hear college students find their bags or mobile phones stolen in school dining halls accessible to the public.

Apart from offering students nutritious food， canteens serve as a social hub where students can gather together and foster a sense of belonging. It seems to me that university cafeterias should not be open to the general public. （171 words）
