Lin Qiaozhi:Angel of life生命的天使—林巧稚

林巧稚，中國現代婦產科學的奠基者和開拓者。她一生親手接生了5 萬多名嬰兒。她把畢生精力無私地奉獻給人民，被譽為“卓越的人民醫學家”。

Lin Qiaozhi was born in 1901 in an ordinary family in Gulangyu Island，in Fujian Province. Lin Qiaozhi’s father Lin Liangying is an open-mindedperson， who taught her English from an early age and educated her to bean independent woman in the future. When she was 5， her mother diedof uterine cervical carcinoma. At that time， she realized the sadness thatwomen’ s illnesses could bring to their families， and the influence thatwomen’s health could have on their children.

In the summer of 1920， after she graduated from Xiamen Women’sTeacher-training School at the age of 18， she knew about Peking UnionMedical College， a first-class medical school in Asia. In order to successfullyenter Peking Union Medical College， she did a lot of preparatory work，but in the process of takingthe English test， her friend YuQiongying suddenly 1）faintedfrom heatstroke on the way to theexamination， in order to rescue YuQiongying， Lin Qiaozhi interruptedher English test， carried YuQiongying to a cool place， andquickly handled this 2）emergency.But when she returned to theexamination room after solving it， she found that the examination was over.

In 1921， Lin Qiaozhi thought that her path of studying medicine was over，so she returned to Gulangyu Island in despair， but she did not expect thata month later she actually received an acceptance letter from Peking UnionMedical College. It turned out that the teacher in the examination room atthat time reported Lin Qiaozhi’s rescue to the school， and the school took intoaccount her good qualities， as well as her fluent spoken English and excellentresults in other subjects， and finally 3）admitted her out of the box.

In the summer of 1929， Lin was the first woman hired as a residentphysician at Union Hospital’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After6 months， she was named chief resident physician.

Due to her outstanding work， in July 1932， Lin’s employer sent her tostudy at medical schools in Manchester and London， in the United Kingdom.

In September 1939， Lin received a grant from her hospital and shewent to the University of Chicago Medicine to study. Due to her outstanding?achievements， the following year，she was named an honorarymember of the Chicago Academy ofNature. Lin gave up an opportunityto stay in America， and she returnedto China in the winter of 1940.

Lin was appo int ed v icepresidentof the Chinese Academyof Medical Sciences in 1959，and she was elected a member of the Standing Committee of the NationalCommittee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. ButLin wasn’t overly excited by the honors. She once said， “I can’t do withoutpatients. I feel upset if I haven’t seen patients for one day.”

In her twilight years， Lin was a consultant to many magazines; shepresided over the editing of many well-received books， and she was chiefeditor of the lengthy book Gynecological Tumor. She remained single throughouther life. In her will， she gave all of her savings to the 4）kindergartens andnurseries in Beijing.

On April 22， 1983， the 82-year-old Lin passed away. “I’m going to go.Don’t try to rescue me any more. Don’t waste the medicine any more.” Thosewere her last words.

林巧稚1901 年出生在福建鼓浪嶼的一個普通家庭。林巧稚的父親林良英是一個思想開明的人，從小教她英語，教育她將來做一個獨立的女性。她5 歲時，母親死于宮頸癌。那時，她意識到婦科疾病可能給家庭帶來的悲傷，以及女性健康可能對其子女產生的影響。

1920 年夏，18 歲的林巧稚從廈門女子師范學校畢業后，得知北京協和醫科大學（今北京協和醫學院）是亞洲首屈一指的醫學院。為了順利進入北京協和醫科大學，她做了大量的準備，但是去參加英語科目考試的路上，她的朋友余瓊英突然中暑暈倒，為了救余瓊英，林巧稚中斷了自己的英語考試，把余瓊英抱到陰涼的地方，迅速處理了這起突發事件。當她回到考場時，她發現考試已經結束了。

1921 年，林巧稚原以為自己的學醫之路就此結束了，于是絕望地回到鼓浪嶼，沒想到一個月后，她竟然收到了北京協和醫科大學的錄取通知書。原來，當時考場的老師向學校報告了林巧稚的救援情況，學校考慮到她的良好素質，以及她流利的英語口語和其他科目的優異成績，最終破格錄取了她。

1929 年夏，林巧稚成為協和醫院婦產科的第一位住院女醫師。6 個月后，她被任命為首席住院醫師。

由于工作出色，1932 年7 月，林巧稚赴英國曼徹斯特醫學院和倫敦大學醫學院進修。

1939 年9 月，林巧稚收到醫院的助學金，赴美國芝加哥大學醫學院進行研究。由于她的杰出成就，第二年，她被美國聘為“自然科學榮譽學會會員”。

同年，林巧稚放棄了留在美國的機會，于1940 年冬天回到中國。

1959 年，林巧稚任中國醫學科學院副院長，并當選為全國政協常委。但林巧稚并沒有因為這些榮譽而過于興奮。她曾經說過：“我離不開病人。如果我一天沒有看到病人，我會感到沮喪。”

在她的暮年，林巧稚擔任了許多雜志的顧問; 她主持編輯了許多廣受好評的書籍，并擔任巨著《婦科腫瘤》的主編。她一生都保持單身。在遺囑中，她把自己所有的積蓄都捐給了北京的幼兒園和托兒所。

1983 年4 月22 日，82 歲的林巧稚逝世。“我要走了。不要再試圖救我了。不要再浪費藥了。”這是她的遺言。

只要我一息尚存，我存在的場所便是病房，存在的價值便是醫治病人。
