I am a Schwarzman Scholar and director of public relations at Ballistic Architecture Machine,a multidisciplinary design studio based in Beijing and New York.Holding degrees in architecture&urbanism,and global affairs,I believe the power of spatial design can be used as an instrument to address complex societal challenges of the 21st century and the future.That’s why I designed a project that addresses the widespread challenge of municipal solid waste management.I noticed thatChina Todayhas a column of “Going Green” which shares inspiring stories of how Chinese people’s lives are being changed in a green way.Some of the stories have helped me learn more about Chinese government policies,people’s attitudes,their efforts and achievements,as well as on-going global cooperative projects.Nature-Based Solutions(NBS) mentioned in the article titled “A Pathway to a Climate-Resilient Future” in the August issue,so far as I know,refer to the sustainable management and use of nature for tackling socioenvironmental challenges.NBS represents a cutting-edge concept in the world for ecological protection and restoration,and it advocates harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.In this regard,China has accumulated much experience that can be shared with the international community.As Chinese people believe,“Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.”It has been proven that a good ecological environment is the foundation for stable and sustainable development.

I am the former Nepalese ambassador to China.I am writing to note that this year celebrates the 67th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Nepal and China.The two countries have been enjoying a historic and age-old relationship characterized by mutual trust,understanding,and good neighborliness.After reading the article titled “Lushan Mountain:Humanistic Culture Blends into Natural Beauty” in the July issue ofChina Today,I was enchanted by Lushan’s beautiful scenery.Chinese people have always revered nature and loved natural landscapes.Generations of literati went to admire the beauty of Lushan,took inspiration from the local natural beauty,and created a large number of literary works which later proved to be valuable humanistic wealth.Nepal is home to eight mountains higher than 8,000 meters.The Himalayas is endowed with pristine nature and rich culture.Nepal is proud of its snow-capped great Himalayan mountain range,deep gorges,beautiful forests,treasurable biodiversity,abundant flora and fauna,cool climatic conditions,profound traditional culture,colorful festivals,and many religious places of worship.Every year,a large number of Chinese people travel to Nepal,trekking and climbing Nepal’s pristine mountain ranges.I believe in the future our two countries can have more cooperation in sharing expertise to protect the mountains,their biodiversity,and the vital ecosystem,all of which are essential for the well-being of people worldwide.
