There are many kinds of fruits in the world. What fruit do you like？ Do you like the pineapple？

The pineapple is a sweet fruit that grows only in hot countries. It does not grow on trees， as some fruit does. It grows up from the ground. The tops may be cut off and planted. The pineapple plant grows about two feet （about 60 centimeters） high.

The pineapple looks like a large pine cone①. It has a hard， brown covering. Its leaves have points. Inside it is yellow and juicy. The middle part is hard， and is not used for canning. But the middle part is sweet！ Next time you have fresh pineapple， try a piece of the hard middle part.

Canned or fresh， the pineapple is a good fruit to eat.
