When the wind rises and sails,those who can,rise to the top!In this special period of saying goodbye to the old and welcoming the new,we will enter 2021 with hope.In the past year,under the leadership of the Chinese Nursing Association and strong support from all walks of life,all editorial teams for the series of journals that form the Chinese Nursing Journals Publishing House (including the Chinese Journal of Nursing,Chinese Journal of Nursing Education,Chinese Journal of Emergency and Critical Care Nursing,and International Journal of Nursing Sciences),together with the majority of authors and readers,have worked hard to shoulder the social responsibility and made great progress.We are profoundly grateful to all of you for continued supporting and excellent contribution to the journals.

The year 2020 is the end of the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan for building a moderately prosperous society.It has been a year full of challenges,especially with the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic raging around the world.Nurses rushed to the front line of fighting against the pandemic from the beginning without hesitation and struggled to control the disease.Nurses are critical to winning the fight against the pandemic in China and protecting the lives and health of people in all countries.

The Chinese Nursing Journals Publishing House spared no effort in serving nursing professionals fighting against the pandemic,implementing the call of “applying research results to the fight against the pandemic”and carrying out the rapid review and publishing of solicited papers.More than 3,400 papers on COVID-19 were submitted in four months,and consecutive issues on the special topic on COVID-19 care were launched,including dozens of papers with clinically important guiding values using the prepublishing model,such as the consensus of experts on nursing patients with severe COVID-19,safety management of nasopharyngeal specimen collection,accurate and rapid pre-examination and triage,the process of cesarean section for pregnant women with COVID-19,and so on.The timely publication of such articles provided professional guidance for nursing workers in the early stage of the pandemic in facing new infectious diseases.This is critical to improving the nursing care of patients with COVID-19 in a“scientific,standardized,orderly and efficient” manner.As recommended by the China Association for Science and Technology,all articles on nursing patients with COVID-19 in the Chinese Journal of Nursing were selected for inclusion in the World Health Organization COVID-19 database,which not only provided academic support for China’s fight against the pandemic but also contributed Chinese nursing experience to the global fight against the pandemic.To support Wuhan’s fight against the pandemic,relevant news was delivered in a timely way via the publishing house’s WeChat platform,demonstrating the nurses’ spirit of selfless dedication and moving deeds at the frontline.

2020 has been a year of endeavor.The Chinese Nursing Journals Publishing House insists on quality first and supports all journals in focusing on nursing frontiers and hot topics,and a total of 34 issues with special collections were published this year.In order to promote the scientificization of nursing decision-making and the standardization of nursing practice,the Chinese Journal of Nursing set up a column,“Standards and Guidelines”,with the navigation bar on its official website displaying relevant publications in recent years.An additional special issue of nursing discipline consensus and standards,including 10 standards issues by the Professional Committees of the Chinese Nursing Association,28 expert consensus,guidelines,or clinical protocols,were planned and published.

2020 has been a year of innovation and development.Following the spirit of President Xi’s important speech on“speeding up scientific and technological innovation”,the Chinese Nursing Journals Publishing House accelerated the pace of innovation and strived for comprehensive development.With the development of digital technology,academic content has been transformed into multimedia forms,including video and audio formats to meet the diverse needs of readers,via media platforms such as websites,WeChat,Toutiao app,and so on.In January 2020,by integrating the resources of the four journals,virtual special issues of annual reviews were delivered on the WeChat platform.These included hot topics,such as elderly care,nursing human resources,and critical care nursing.Our articles are targeted delivered to meet readers’ individualized and differentiated needs.Based on the impact of “Chinese Nursing" (中華護理),we provided effective academic exchange services for readers,authors and companies,held research writing training classes,nursing research summit forums,and the selection of “One Hundred Excellent Nursing Papers in China” that involved 22 nursing journals in China.This sequence of events has achieved wide acclaim.

The Great Wall was not completed in a day,innovation is not a moment.While actively exerting its subjective initiative,assuming social responsibility,and promoting technological innovation,the Chinese Nursing Journals Publishing House strengthened journal management and construction of the talent team,further clarified reviewing responsibilities and evaluation methods,and insisted on strict peer review processes.

2021 is a critical period for the construction and development of academic publication in China,with both opportunities and challenges.2021 is the beginning year of the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan period,with a clarion call for a new journey.The Chinese Nursing Journals Publishing House will look forward in the approach,resolve development bottlenecks,strengthen digital technology,and accelerate the pace of innovation and development while focusing on overall quality improvement.The Chinese Nursing Journals Publishing House will adhere to its original intention,work intensively and hard,give full play to the strength of nursing experts and editorial teams,promote the development of nursing disciplines,and contribute to the construction of Chinese culture and global health promotion!
