On the Present Situation and Problems of Design Management Education in China

Abstract:With the rapid development of domestic design,domestic art design to the world and international standards,the concept of internationalization began to focus on the combination of technology and management. This makes the design management talents with design background more favored by enterprises. In China,the introduction of design management is late,and it is still at the initial stage. There are many difficulties and problems,so it is necessary to explore a teaching model of design management which is suitable for our education and market.

1. The Present Situation and Deficiencies of Domestic Design and Management Teaching.

After 2000,some colleges and universities have begun preliminary exploration in design management teaching. In general,design management teaching at the level of Chinese colleges and universities has just begun,and there are still some difficulties in communicating between institutions and enterprises. Related teaching materials and case studies are not mature,the domestic design management teaching model is also in the process of accumulation and development,and the overall gap between the system and maturity of international design management courses is relatively large,and there is a shortage of excellent teaching and research talents.At present,most colleges and universities set up postgraduate courses in art management under the majors of art,and some key universities have set up postgraduate courses in design management under the majors of design and science,but they do not have design management majors at the undergraduate level,although many universities have set up design management courses. But some colleges and universities are required courses,and some colleges and universities are optional courses.

1.1.Lack of Cultivation Consciousness of Students in the Teaching Concept of Design Management Course.

In the past,China was known as a big manufacturing country. It did not have high design requirements. Nowadays,some designers in small and medium-sized enterprises are more like a graphics technician. Software operation is a basic skill possessed by an industrial design student. It belongs to the category of design teaching,but it is not suitable for a large amount of time teaching because these skills can be learned in any training institution,and even part-time teachers in some training institutions are better at operating skills. Teachers should teach students the basic methods and procedures of design,and how to manage the ability of design.

1.2.Inadequate teaching resources for design management courses.

Lack of suitable reference materials for design science. Although there are reference materials in every aspect,there are not many,and the content of each book can be explained in limited quantities. Some books are mixed with other theories,and many books are versions of many years ago. In the 21st century,the design of China is constantly improving,and the cognitive needs of design management are constantly changing. There is a serious lack of design management reference materials that keep pace with the times.

Lack of experienced teachers. Many teachers choose to enter colleges and universities directly after graduating from graduate school. They have not really exercised in enterprises and do not have rich experience in the practical use of design management. Such people with design management experience rarely enter university teaching. Their knowledge of design management can hardly be conveyed to the benefit of students.

1.3.Design management teaching evaluation is not flexible.

At present,many colleges and universities still maintain the way of final exams. As a standard for judging the quality of professional courses,this is a typical Chinese education. For an interdisciplinary course,it is difficult to use the test to explain the student's learning effect.

2.Suggestions for the Improvement of Design Management Teaching in China.

2.1.Colleges and universities should pay attention to the teaching of design management courses in design science,give teachers enough space and support,and encourage teachers to teach design management knowledge in the classroom.

2.2.Invite the elite talents with actual experience in design management to enter the classroom and share the actual experience in product design management in the company or design company. Through this interactive process,students can better understand the basic theory knowledge and understand the design management.

2.3.Teaching evaluation can complete the organization and planning related to design management through virtual research topics. By simulating the real project operation process,it can achieve the results of learning and use,and leave a deep impression on students,and evaluate teaching results according to students 'performance in the process.

Conclusion:The design management teaching in our country is still in the initial stage,and the difficulties and problems are very many. It is very important to find a design management teaching model suitable for the current situation of education and market in our country.Only if we pay attention to the teaching of design management,the state,schools,teachers and students can work together to establish an effective design management teaching system in China.
